Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Voluntary Seperation Program Changes Coming Monday.

I heard today from a very reliable source that Hans will be announcing the following on the Monday webcast:

1.) 60 week cap is being lifted to get more volunteers. So it will be a true 3 weeks pay for every year of service.

2.) Verizon will be announcing that they are selling off a major business unit.

Don't wait on this TROLL. Wait for official word for policy stuff. You're making a life decision, not deciding between Coke and Pepsi.

OP...I’m hoping to hear another update from you. I’m still on the fence, no cap will make the decision for me. Please let us know if you still believe this to be true. Or if your sources were wrong. Confirmation either way might help others to decided. Thanks in advance!

" I am not saying the Cap removal is true, but the Verizon rumor mill always has some semblance of being factual !"

This is amazing selective memory. Every few months there are rumors of large RIFs with specific dates, or EISP etc, most of which turn out to be false. Yes, this buyout one was a hit, but one among a huge set of false rumors.

A fiction fed to us all, the name is Veritas + Horizon; in 'truth' our name is Versimilitude + Horizon. That appearance of truth is just over the horizon. Hold fast clock-watchers.

Just passing on what was just said on today's noon HR Daily call about the VSP. They were just asked about lifting the 60 hour cap and they said that is NOT TRUE.

I have found most rumors around Verizon, end up having some basis in fact. I have yet to hear a rumor that did not turn into a fact, maybe the details were a bit off, but the basic premise has always held to be true, The buyout was rumored weeks before it was actually announced. We heard it was coming, had to have 27 years of service, then we heard 20, with various caps. The buyout was eventually announced and all you needed was 1 year of service. The underlying rumor of a buyout ended up being true. I am not saying the Cap removal is true, but the Verizon rumor mill always has some semblance of being factual !

32 year employee

60 Weeks = Not taking it. Favors 20 years not 30 years.

Uncapped = 96 weeks. YES I will take the offer for sure.

Could very well be made up. However, the postings seemed particularly earnest, and the back and forth seemed very reminiscent of vsp discussion before it happened. Not long to wait now. Hoping becomes true. It all seems very odd, but the VZ 2.0 will likely be different, as they seem determined to do much more with much less, and getting high tenure off may be a key objective, as most high tenure are in wireline, and there are relatively few left.

Don't believe this folks. They will laugh at you believers after 2pm. Don't you know anyone can make up stuff and post. This post mentioned 2 things. #2 was announcing a bu selloff. But as u can see, the only announcement to the press and internally was restructure. So already was incorrect. And you will find #1 was a joke soon.

If cap is lifted it would help restore some of the pension money thery've stolen and the buyout money would come from the overfunded pension fund. Still wishfull thinking that they might make the effort to right a wrong.

Seems strang that they could do same day as big org change focus and also with not much time left, How do the make sure everyone finds out. How do they work it in with all the org discussion. Very odd for VZ to do all in same day.

Makes no difference to my VSP offer if they remove the cap. I'm not taking the package and have already been told our workload will go up dramatically due to losing team members to the VSP.

You can spew all the negativity you want. Just please come back here tomorrow and acknowledge that I was correct.

More than 3,000+ employees with 30+ years at VZ would love to see the cap removed. I bet these few hundred folks with 40+ years will push the green button too.

I agree with the last 3 posts. And, if you manage to stay at Vz for the next 6 months in addition to breaking even (actually better because the 26 weeks of pay that you get is taxed as regular income not the higher supplemental rate) plus, you get 401k match, more STI and, if you have 25 years, 3 weeks vacation and any personal days you accrue. Hmm, I may stay after all.

I think a lot of the decisions for the 20+ years crowd is based on the type of job they are doing. If you're in IT/software development, then it's much easier for someone to get a new job in any industry domain than say someone with a pigeon holed position such as Telcom switched services. Both skills require the ability to be technical and ability to troubleshoot, analyze, etc., but it comes down what is relevant in the job market today.

A lot of 20 plus year tenured employees don’t see the VSP as a great offer. If they avoid a RIF for just 6 months into 2019 they still leave with a 35 week severance and can collect unemployment on top of it. Why voluntarily leave? Removing the cap may provide the incentive to take the offer.

After 25+ years seeing numerous layoff's , RIF's etc ... If the tea leaves really indicate a 3 week per year , plus 18 months Ins ... this looks to be a fair opportunity to move on ... The Job mkt is hot here in Atlanta, and even at my age, my contacts say will not have ANY issues finding employment for the next several years - about 5 more. . Go Gators!
