Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Question about Nike

My father noticed that all the Nike recruitment ads for positions show mainly young diverse people in pictures. His point is do they actively recruit older experienced people? You can’t tell by the pictures.

Also I heard as an employee you have to pay to use the work out facilities is that correct?

The person who wrote they received successful and highly successful ratings did you see other employees get bullied?

  1. Nike hires very few if any people over 50.

  2. The longer you have been around Nike and you’re not a VP you are considered a waste.

  3. Nike puts out a great product with marketing. The supply chain, HR, distribution, employee relations s---.

  4. So much money is wasted on people who do not show up. You can come in for an hour and leave and not have to use PTO. Work from home. But it’s only for the special people and privileged positions.

5.very top heavy non added value E bands and above. Nike has more politics and red tape then the government.

  1. Nike has created stories many told by P about Nike’s heroes and about situations that have been embellished as the years have gone by. Read the books about how they brag about calling each other names and being barred from going to places etc from sales meetings. It’s still going on.

  2. I retired because because I had some pride left. I would not let people call me the old man etc. many people I worked with have or are leaving. I’m glad I worked and contributed to Nike’s success . I hope it gets better. You people who say it’s your dream job and you want to work there be careful what you wish for. It’s not for everyone Nike’s hiring practices prove that every day

I'm over 40, had nothing but Highly Successful and Successful annual reviews. I was bullied and racially discriminated out of my job when I hit 10 years. I was having anxiety attacks, reported it to HR, and the exec leader allowed it to continue. Sprunk won't hold his direct reports accountable. It is such a toxic environment

@VXvLbqs-Jcpu: Make no mistake, at no point was I saying that Nike isn’t ageist. It sure as hell is. I watched decades long veterans get cut unceromonisly before they could retire for cost cutting measures, and it enraged me. Nike culled hardworking veterans and folks with instatinal knowledge because a spreadsheet formula showed a marginal stock price bump. This is coming from a black guy who was supposedly “the type” everyone on the outside thinks Nike hires in droves. I just took exception to the ediotic “white males need not apply here”. I’m sick of watching people who get screwed punch down and blame another marganilized group. Its cowardly, weak, and self defeating. Getting f’d by Nike? Its not black people. Its not women. Its the freaking vendor and contractor system that keeps our wages low and keeps us afraid. You an FTE? Applies equally to you too, thats how they keep your wages down as well. Jesus people, figure out who the real enemy is and unite already.

I am one of a few white haired employees. I know the next round of layouts that come...my name will be on the top of the list.

@VXvLbqs-Jxin: Excelent point, I forgot about destruction centers. My point is Nike has plenty of diversity in low skill areas, but rarely promotes PoC into positions of power and influence. Thats the direveristy that actaully matters. Most of the folks I know in Nike Tech have never reported to anything other than a white dude. Thats what maintains power structures. Nikes diversity push is 100% window dressing and NOT working.

Actually the diversity numbers are padded at the distribution facilities located in Memphis. Lots of hard working people located there.

@VXvLbqs-4due: “Here”. Interesting. Generally curious what org you worked in. Most PoC are contractors and very few in positions of power. Nike uses retail employees to pad their diversity numbers. I’m calling BS on you. Its a good o’l boys club where the brown contractors make the UO grads look good to the VP’s. I think you know this deep down bro. If you disagree with that assessment, I would love to know what part of the company you work in. Because that doesn’t track with what I experienced in three and a half years. Please educated me.

If you’re over 40 at Nike, you better have friends in high places.

It’s true. On a daily basis I get reminded of my age and how I am one of the oldest ones working where I am and I’m only in my early 40s!

Anyone going to dispute that Nike does not hire older experienced people? I mean 55+?

Older people also need to work and can add value.

If it’s true I hope the government or someone catches them.

They don't recruit older experienced people because they don't care to retain them.

Nike is not diverse....in race, gender and particularly age of employees.

And yes, you have to pay to use the gyms.
