Do you still hangon to work laptop after handed the pink slip if you choose to stay till the very last day (30 days?) Otherwise, how are affected employees expected to find another job internally within 60 days? Sorry if this has been asked before.

You need to already have some plans in the pipeline... always keep your network warm and your next potential role in the running. Saved me from the fire a few years ago when I had that dreaded one2one. Turned it around in a month. You just can’t rely on security of position anymore - not in the last 7-8 years or so. Always have a plan B.
You get 30 days to look...and can use your laptop during that time. But good luck locking a job down.....even though there are lots of job postings, most are "frozen" during a LR period, ensuring that the LR people hit the door.
And you badge works. You still have access to email, jabber, etc etc.
You hand over your laptop on your last day of employment.
If you find an internal job within this time, you can keep it under your new manager.
