Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The whole strategy is to raise the stock value

Omig !!! The whole strategy here is to make the stock explode !!!! Look at the open interest in the option market on VZ calls it’s insane!!! Huge bets !!!!! This is the recipe to do it! F--- innovation ! VZ realized along time ago it could beat Netflix, Google or Comcast in the video delivery models! They gave that up after a failed GO90 and IPTV testing that went bust!!! Thanks to useless Microsoft Edgcast advice that was wrong.

Now 5G is the talk of the town. Ok maybe that will turn churn the customer base, perhaps. If they can convince customers they are the one ultimate source for internet video and voice??

Outsourcing all of IT is the right thing to do. VZ is already moving to a Google cloud platform anyway. AWS is another source. Datacenters are not neeed anymore for VZ. COs are selective in what they need to do. For example Video Head Ends and leased POP global network facilities. Real estate is being sold !!! They even sold the headquarters in Basking Ridge!!

Just that hype alone in addition to the HUGE layoffs buyouts and employment reduction should get this stock moving like a technology company!!! VZ 85 per share by year end !!!

Thought this was a good post, as the OP ( @VVhAoCj-1jbx ) made some valid points. Although I can’t say that I agree with the part about outsourcing being justified, other than that this is all very true.

He wants to free up cash for his super expensive 5G build plain and simple. He sees this as his claim to fame.

That stock isn't going anywhere between $46-55 as always. VZ goes up when the market goes down and vice versa.

I agree. It is simply a business decision to make money and don’t have a problem with that. Given that, VZ could have done a lot more to communicate the new direction and layoffs so that people that need to work could secure a new job. Not knowin if you will be accepted or not and then only give 2 weeks in some cases, is NOT transparent.

I understand they need fine to decide who goes and stays so as not to gut needed departments, I think a lot more people could make a more informative decision if the first date to leave was March.

@VYNYBGc this all makes sense to streamline the company and let go and get up to speed with technology. The problem I have with VZ is the way they have treated the loyal employees. All they had to do was be upfront. Let us know upfront the direction and that there will be changes possibly layoffs etc. to get where they need to be. I wish them success
