Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What will be lost if Verizon IT is outsourced?

What's the negative impact? I think that we agree that the positive impact may be expected on the cost cutting side, so it'll be cheaper (some doubt this, but for the sake of this argument let's assume that there will be some savings)...

Yet, what's lost?

State is bad for anyone who is dependent on others for help! Did you ever blame your school or teachers or parents for your failure at school? It’s same at work.

VZ IT at best is a regular IT shop, nothing path breaking happens here. World comes down for a launch. It’s an average IT shop at best. And attracts such talent. At every level. What’s there to impact? For a loss making business unit? Or barely there business??

Don’t waste your time if you want to do something go find a job in big league if you can!! Using buzzwords don’t get anyone a pedigree doing cutting edge work does! And at best VZ IT is like plumbing following an order in a bunch of systems to watch for leaks.

@1ude -

Everybody is entitled to an opinion and i respect yours. If you think the current state is bad, i look forward to your opinion after the outsourcing (if and when)

No one at VZ IT either rebadged or retained does anything great! Everyone talks abt buzzwords that they learn from various conferences or online articles. So no, there won’t be any impact. The only impact is for people who just sit and gossip instead of learning and moving on!!

Well on this outsourcing plan then sounds like there will be 1000's of employees having to retire the day before the outsource in order to keep their VZ retirement medical. That is a lot of knowledge out the door.

There was a time in the United States of America where institutions like the SEC, Pension Guarantee Trust Corp. etc. use to monitor and have to approve companies selling parts off and doing things like this. Now everything is about exec and corp greed.

"Yet, what's lost?"

People who built the system and know how to keep it running. People who can understand English and comprehend the problems, instead of reading scripts in India. There is a reason why Dell (as one example) moved business, customer support to India and then brought it back to the US when their business started tanking.

Verizon is sinking. Once a company gets on a layoff and outsource death spiral they almost never wise up. It's like crack for them -- they stare at org charts and constantly prune and snip and chop. "Oooo, look we could save $__ if we just eliminate..."

Not to mention "Van Helsing" is obviously a corporate hatchet man. While I was still at Verizon and he talked about 5G, his stupidity embarrassed me. But it's not his job to be a brainiac -- it's his job to cut at least half the remaining employees at Verizon, as soon as possible. (Ask a remaining Ericsson employee -- if you can find one -- if you don't believe me.)

Verizon had a good reputation. I'm pretty sure they must have a way to run the numbers to figure out how many years they can live on that good reputation while giving increasingly c-appier service. Then they do a cost analysis on how much money they can line their pockets with before kill the the company and sell off the dismembered pieces.

Jump ship. It's going full speed ahead into an iceberg.

For a small company it makes sense to outsource IT.

For a monster like vz where the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, its going to be a DISASTER.

The first vzw.com outage will wipe out the 10B savings off the market cap.

There is a reason why its cheaper. The company loses agility. Everything is driven by sla (not business need) and the smart guys will jump ship.

I am in IT in a high demand skill and will 100% jump ship if this happens and might come back into vz as a contractor (at a premium).

For the employees it will stink.

Worse medical

Less Vacation

Less Severance after the 1st year.

No Bonus after the first year (If any)

Time to dust off the Resume.
