Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Grocery stores are your salvation

I recently switched to Wawa, and it's a whole new experience. I feel like I am recovering from doing hard time at Sears.

The store looks amazing. We are always well stocked and have enough people covering the floor so I never feel overwhelmed.

Customers actually like this place! Which means they are nice to us. I can't emphasize enough how much of a difference that makes in my workday.

And the pay is about the same as Sears, if not better.

Trust me folks, even though this is just a grocery store, it still beats Sears. This is what you should be looking at before it's too late.

Wawa is big in Va as well. Never have considered it a grocery store...more of a nice gas station. Like someone else said similar to a Sheets, Royal Farms or nicer 7-11's

Wawa's food is great...made to order and very quick.

I would suggest Costco if there is one near you...they typically hire around the end of October...you will only be seasonal, but if you bust your a-- and make a good impression, they will keep you. Definitely the best retail job you can get.

Wawa is also a convenience store chain with gas pumps.....similar to Sheetz which is also big in PA.

For those in markets that have them, I would recommend Meijer. Most stores are unionized, so you will have to pay union dues ($10 a paycheck), but you get guaranteed pay raises based on the number of hours you work (you get a raise after working 500 hours, then 1000 hours, etc). Benefits are offered. OT is paid after working 8 hours. There is fairness in scheduling. No pushing Shop Your Way, credit cards, or other bs.

The only thing I hate is that the backroom process isn't automated, (no backroom locator) but the clean stores, better customers, and lack of "sales" is refreshing.
