Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

There is life after Verizon

Just wanted to let people who are in their fifties know there is life after VZ. I was laid off last year, and, took me about 4 months to find a more fulfilling and better paid job (if compared to what I had before). I did maybe five interviews total and received two job offers, so I even had the luxury of choosing (I was not expecting this)...

The pay is lower about 3%, but frankly, that is more than I expected. Not to mention, I have my peace of mind back.

So if you get laid off don't panic like I did. Job market is good despite the situation at VZ (Constant layoffs, reorgs and now this Infosys thing). There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Also very hard on those like me that are mid-50s and don't live in a 2 income household. I am responsible for everything and I am not ready to retire nor can I afford to retire at this age. I pray I will be able to get a new job within 6mos. Ive already been looking and budgeting more -- Ive always been good with budgeting and spending, but I will need to budget more now.

I’m not up at 125 but any similar job I look at senior level or not pays far less than what I make. Gotta find some time with this zero work life balance to learn something for a new job.

Its the ones who have 30 years here and are making 125K who are in trouble because they are not worth 125K to another company out in the real world.

I am the OP, my background is in IT with a specialization in a specific set of infrastructure tools - the jobs that were offered to me were all relatively related to the toolset I have experience with. Hope this helps...

If you don't mind me asking, what types of jobs were you offered? I, too, am an older worker.
