Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VZ Morale

There used to be high employee morale - VZW was an exceptional company to work for. Happy employees made for productive employees. Things turned when Lowell took over as CEO. The company started to care more about penny pinching than they did about the employees. Now I see people in all departments giving half the effort because nobody has any job security. How many of us are just waiting for a buyout so we can move on?

At the end of the day , it is about making money for the Shareholders. Whether you work at Verizon or somewhere else, or you are CEO or Janitor in the company, it is all about you rendering your skills to make money for the shareholders. It's not a charity, it's a for profit organization. As long as what you are doing is value-able you are likely to be there , if you are not then goodbye. Please focus on career security (rather than job security with a company) by enhancing your skill sets.

All this is good to read. Reality is at one time Verizon Wireless was Just enjoying a growing wireless market! Just like land line did few decades back! When competition increases you start plateauing and sliding down. Same happened to all great companies including GE, GM etc all once super great cos to work for. Today that mantle is with GANFA cos! So it’s nothing new. It’s a cycle. Telecom is now commodity and will be more commoditised like power or water. No one talks abt power as if it’s a god given right to have power. Same is happening to data and voice!

All these companies are competing with China (and specifically Huawei). Even though, USA has restricted the top 4 telecoms from buying from Huawei, it hasn't restricted the smaller players from buying Huawei network and phone (and there are a lot of smaller players out there). Also, USA has and continues to give away technical knowledge to China practically for free. Once they have this knowledge, they now hold the power of development therefore, jobs are lost in USA.

The way I see it is the top four telecoms have to come together and tell the network provider they will buy the product if 70% of the work is done in USA by USA employees. Restricting Huawei from entering USA will not stop job losses. Restricting development of products (networks and phones) used by USA consumers from being made in foreign country would help slow down the job losses.

I don't feel is worth putting any effort and is a shame. This company has no culture and the employees are always worried. I bet a T-Mo employee is happier than a Verizon employee any day. These guys are bozos compared to John Legere. I wouldn't hire this guy to do my lawn after his outcome in Ericsson. The internet never forgets.

I hope they don’t lay off any it from retail. We hardly see our IT guy bc he is stretched so thin. Our iPads are 2.5 years old and we are lucky if they last more then 3 hours before needing charged and we only have one per rep. CUTTING IN THE WRONG PLACE

I’ve been trying to go but VZ or the limited scope VZ gave me is making it hard to find anything.

I still don’t think I can go with the buyout because I can’t retire now.
