Verizon: Always on the eve of the next announcement of cuts

People outside of Verizon think that it's an extremely "stable" company with lots of job security and promise. However, what those inside know is just the opposite. Instead of working for a company that is on the eve of the next announcement of innovation, Verizon is always on the eve of the announcement of the next round of cuts. The only stable thing at Verizon is the stock price, which has been funded at the price of employee morale, job security and constant RIFs. However, the RIFs are not targeted towards "non-performers" but instead, towards those with the most experience and best qualifications who have great track records in the businesses.

Outside of the core Verizon business (telecommunications), there is tremendous incompetence. From the Executive Director level on down, management is often making decisions about areas that they know nothing about, or were put there by a crony of the boss. This has compounded the problem. Reverse discrimination is out of control in some areas of the company. There are people (managers, senior managers, directors- you know who they are) who would be fired on the spot for some of the racist, s-xist commentary and actions they have engaged in, but because they are non-White, they are not just given a pass, the company invests in sending them for "counseling" and "coaching." This usually tones things down for a month or two until the next HR investigation/incident, when facts are verified, confirmed and again, more "coaching" takes place to the point that the business is more interested in running a rehab facility than a profitable business.

Although the pay and benefits are good based on industry standards, you never know day to day how long it will last! Every day spent in the mismanaged groups outside of the core business is a day that erodes your skillset and diminishes your value to a prospective employer. Then, as everyone around you is either RIF'ed or leaves for greener pastures, you end up having to do their work after management promises opportunities for those carrying the ball that they can't deliver.

If someone can get a RIF package and get out, it's for the best. It's a blessing in disguise as this is not the company it used to be!

I tweeted this to Trump a week ago but no traction on this. If more people tweet him he may do something about it

Verizon management would take the soap and running water out of the bathrooms if they could to save $0.50!!! Don’t laugh- literally worked in 3 Verizon offices over the last 10 years where they did exactly that. Literally bathrooms with no soap, running water or paper towels to “save costs.” Some Verizon offices are like working in 3rd World countries. However, spare no expense for the senior management team’s bathrooms and the EBC centers where the smoke and mirrors to the customer is on full display. This place has really become deplorable. Someone should contact President Trump and fill him in on what these eurotrash socialists are doing to this once iconic American company!!!

I'd index on the lack of innovation. The company (save for wireless) has stagnated. And now wireless has too. 5G is the new 4G, not something game changing. The company will continue to live this cycle until they are bought out or finally get it and try something new and successful.

Btw, the reliable stock price is indicative of the lack of progress. They do what they do well (telco) but little else.

Figure roughly 72 layoffs in the last 18 years, BAU.

I just have to say one thing. the term is "couldn't care less." I you could care less, that means you do care. if you couldn't care less that means there is nothing you care less about than the subject at hand.

Indeed. Lowell and company lined their pockets well before driving what’s left into the ground. It’s all smoke and mirrors to the investment community and shareholders. There is so much waste in both money and talent here. However, the same issues which brought us to this point are left intact. The company should be ashamed of themselves and have ripped off the American taxpayer while also fleecing the country and work force. Lowell and company could care less as long as the Gulfstream and Falcon cart them and their suitcases full of cash and stock grants off to their island vacation homes on the worker’s (and customers and countries dime).

How much less could they care?

Its all about the bottom line.. They can care LESS about the employees and the customers for that matter. They are only thinking about how much is in it for me. Management is at the EPIC of GREED in this company. Lowell left with a big bag.. he DID NOTHING BUT CAUSE CHAOS...

Instead of giving those a chance who want to leave, the opportunity to do so.. They rather screw you over and over and over

Get out and save yourself, GOD is good, and he is not pleased in how they street people.

Cut the VLSS program. It's basically nothing more than a bunch of brainwashed people always trying to cut costs of jobs they don't even understand. When the day comes that I see a VLSS "blackbelt" suggest something that will actually cost the company a little bit more money in the short term yet improve a process and employee morale, then I might change my mind about it. Until that day comes, it's nothing but pure BS. If somebody can give me specific examples to prove me wrong, I'm all ears.

It’s truly a shame what’s happened at this company. Greed. They get a $17 Billion tax windfall last year, courtesy of the US tax payer, and instead of investing it in US jobs, they still need to cut and invest it into paying down debt of poor decisions (buying out all of Vodaphone for $130 Billion and leveraging the entire company to do it). Of course people who made that decision are unphased and not impacted as they are whisked away on the Verizon private jet to their 5th vacation house. But the same people still need to cut $2.5 Billion a year off the business and screw the people in the US actually doing the work. Where is President Trump? He should look into this and tweet this as a wake up call for Verizon’s shareholders!!!

100% on the money! You could shave 66% of the manager through director ranks and save the company a bundle of money! Worthless management at this level. Verizon has turned into a sh*t show. Incompetence at its peak! This, coupled with the fact that products and services are offered to customers that they don’t want to buy, in the “more strategic” areas of the business and it’s a great recipe for failure. Perhaps selling some of these failing businesses is not such a bad idea- stop failing constantly- time to learn from it and right the ship!
