Layoffs are never publicized or announced. Usually even after they've happened not much info is shared except by those going away, even then its sparse information. They seem to target smaller chunks of the population and whittle things down in small bites.

No such statement is on the Hub.

This does not mean that I work at Xerox, it only means that I can check the Hub and dispell this false rumor. I'm also not saying that I don't work at Xerox. 😉

For the folks still working at Xerox, why would you respond to a request such as this?...from a non-Xerox employee. My guess is that this person is already with the competition.

Correct, the 10K figure was from the old Fuji Xerox deal and actually referred to the number of layoffs that Fuji had already planned for its Asia Pac workforce before the proposed merged was even announced. A large number of those cuts would have come from its workforce in Japan, whose employment laws are very stringent when it comes to termination. Thus, Fuji had to announce such well in advance. It had nothing to do with any potential Xerox layoffs in the US as a result of the proposed transaction.

That 10,000 figure was actually referring to Fuji-Xerox layoffs. The local media in Rochester incorrectly reported it as Xerox layoffs at the time.

Nothing on the HUB but it was stated back when the FUJI deal was still a go that they expected to lay off 10,000. Not sure if that is still applicable to now but it's the only time in the past year I've seen a specific statement made.

Such a statement would never be posted on the HUB, or any company's website until such a statement was officially made to the Street; but, I heard rumors of a 20% to 40% targeted workforce reduction from multiple sources in different departments, so the number itself maybe correct.

Xerox won't make any such statement until the future of the company is decided. Will we merge with Fuji? Will we sell to another competitor, holding company, or investment firm? Will we go it alone and find a new partner to replace Fuji?

It would not make any sense to do anything other than trimming at this point, as you don't want to get rid of your sales and marketing people if you are still a standalone company. You won't want to get rid of your engineering groups if you are still planning on building your own products and controllers.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them trim a third, but a deal has to be made or in the works first.

no corporation announces things like this in any way. They just do it.

Just checked the hub and email and this is false. These rumors are starting to get out of hand.
