Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Eddie should be in jail.

His crimes affected thousands of people. No way should he escape punishment.

@VkBpJt3-1cha when Eddie took over Sears was still a great company. Go back and search it was one of the top 100 places to work. It still had big revenue and assets. None of those retailers you quoted had compared to sears. Alan Lacy literally sold Sears off because he didn't know how to run a retail company. I honestly think he was shocked to get that CEO job. He was a finance guy but ended up running a retail operation. When Alan lacy was in charge Amazon just began to set up an online book store. Imagine if he know how to run a retail business he would replace the print catalog with online business. Instead his effort was to sale the company. He sold and jumped ship and gave the ship to an hedge fund manager. I can't blame Alan much since he wasn't born during computer era or understand much about internet. Sears IT shop at that time was top rank in the world. If he only know how to lead those people Sears would be in much better today.

Neither Sears or KMart was a great company by the time Eddie came along. Highly likely his insane pride is the only reason they didn't go the ways of Circuit City, Linens and Things, Carsons, etc a long time ago. All of those were stronger companies.

Being an id--t who destroyed once a great company is not a crime.

@cag - "Intellectual dishonesty". That term was from the old Sears playbook and got many Sears managers sidelined. Unfortunately, under Eddie's regime, intellectual dishonesty became a required business practice. Hence, SHLD now teeters on the edge of the abyss.

Eddie is manipulating the Board and any executives to do his bidding. They rather have a job than do the right thing. If the SEC looks into the goings on at SHC Eddie can say it was he C suite people and deny everything.

Everyone on here can just blame Eddie but I can tell you EVERYONE on the "inside" knows exactly what he is doing. He is not alone with this business plan and they are allowing this to continue to happen. These people below are ALL IN...

Don't think for a minute that they aren't.

Paul G. DePodesta

I'm sure he has not done anything technically illegal since he has a team of attorneys. That said, what he is doing SHOULD be illegal -- being on both sides of the loans, real estate deals, etc., does not seem ethical or good for Sears. That's why the quarterly reports have to state that the interests of the CEO might not align with the interests of the shareholders. It stinks to high heaven IMO.

I agree. When the mob did the same thing to a company they went to jail

The company was being driven into the ground when he was in high school.

He just happened to be leveraged enough to buy it after it was mismanaged to the point of no return

Sadly, being a miserable human being and a rapacious greed head is not illegal.

I agree with the first responder....what is the crime? I'm not Eddie and I feel he is human feces...but what crime has he committed? Driving a company into the ground and making people lose their jobs is not a crime. It happens everyday around the World. Is what he is doing horrible? Yes! Is he committing a crime? I don't know, you tell me.
