Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Call centers are DOWN

Network has been down 30+ minutes. Customers (BGCO and employee line at least) are down. Someone sent me a text so I tested it... called the employee line and got a strange message that my call was being transferred and then the call dropped TWICE. CORe and Care are impacted as well... no incoming calls to our centers. Nice work Hans.

You have a great point, the future is outsourcing and automation.

Actually - it does have something to do with Hans. Over the last 5 years or so, the culture of VZW IT has changed dramatically. Instead of empowering engineers, they have essentially turned away talent and replaced with VDSI resources. There are 2 big problems here. 1- Time zone issues: The turnaround on projects takes longer due to waiting on direction for completion of development tasks. 2- Quality of work is not the standard we are used to at VZW IT prior to the last 5 years. Most IT employees are treated with a call-center mentality and are being pushed waaaay beyond reasonable work hours, etc. In other words, you keep cutting the staff, things will start spinning out of control. After last year's cuts, we have hit critical mass velocity. Negligent things are happening now as would be expected. No worries - It's InfoSys' problem now. have fun!

Nothing to do with Hans but rather with the low level engineers who messed up a change control overnight.
