Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why is wireless not included?

After reviewing the offer a few times, I decided to seek some financial advice to help with my long term plans. One question that came up was why would the company leave out wireless? I mean we are one company and last time I checked the stores are pretty slow.

I thought maybe since the holidays are near that they would need the managers. Then he pointed out the dates are outlined for three dates of departure. So they could have kept the wireless managers on for the holidays and let go after.

Wireless also has tons of business managers across the county that are not as busy as days before T-Mobile came to plate.

Why would the company not want to clean up and offer this country wide AND company wide.

Only conclusion that the financial consultant came up with is Wireline being set up for a purchase. Any merger/purchase has overlapping departments and managers. The company has their way of doing business and only would want the renevue that is being brought in by our customers.

I give it 6-10 months before the CEO announces the sale of wireline. Contract for the union reps already signed and all managers who wanted to leave are gone.

New company will have less to let go once they get in.

That is exactly what they are doing. They have had several Companies wanting to buy Landline side but it was always too bloated. It will be the next pole to fall.

If it's done the same way as a RIF then your last official day is 12/31, but you get paid in Jan 2019 and a 2019 W2.

Unload what wireline? Wireline is going away.. Copper already slated to be removed next year across the footprint..

Once all the managers are gone with this offer, the company will offer the union people a better deal to leave.. Of course they cant offer the better deal now without pissing off the management...but once managers are off payroll - what are they going to do? B--ch on this website?

They’ve been milking every last cent out of Wireline for years. Clerks in my office aren’t permitted to order office supplies. Overtime is almost never offered despite extreme hold times for customers and field techs wait in queue for support for excessive times. Company has an intiative to reduce unnecessary dispatches after 5 years of hiring unqualified tech support and neglecting training. Yet they can’t figure out why we dispatch when we shouldn’t... Tech support has taken a back seat to upselling in every call. I wouldn’t doubt it if the contract extension was to unload wireline.

See, this is across the Verizon portfolio. They are decreasing costs by removing high cost employees in the long term term. Not by selling off wireline or anything of that sort.

WIRELESS is included. To Verizon, management employees includes everyone non-union (craft and management) which this package was offered.
