Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

How many people are accepting?

I'm curious, considering that on Wireline side people suddenly seem less than enthusiastic about it.

In my department there are a lot of takers both at retirement age and much younger. I think it depends on how good or bad you have it based on your job functions and management. In my organization there are many hanging on for dear life because they feel that they won't find as good paying gig with super benefits. Others are sick of being treated and micromanaged like children and want out despite the salary, health benefits, weeks of paid vacation loss. If I had flexible hours, better management and more opportunity for growth I'd probably pass on the offer. No guarantees either way so I am volunteering. I spoke with many that have been planning an exit anyways. This package closes the deal for them.

I'm on the Wireless side, and I know a lot of my immediate coworkers are applying for the VSP. I am for sure; I know one other guy who is definitely going to try for it. So 1/5th of my department is looking at volunteering, partly because the package is "limited time".

Of course, there's no guarantee that they'll let me leave with a package--anyone might be deemed "too valuable" to the business in the immediate. However, let's not forget that there are multiple end dates. If they don't RIF you and you did qualify for the package, you could still end up working through 06/28/2019 though.
