Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No layoffs until this whole buyout thing is settled

Do you honestly believe that in the middle of the whole buyouts thing Verizon will out of the blue decide to lay off a bunch of people? How in the world would that make any sense?

Will there be more layoffs - of course there will down the line. But don't expect any in the following month or two.

I do agree that if their don't get their number (although they keep claiming there is no #) They will do a rif and, they will know by November 17th how many will be gone and when so they can have a rif in the same time frame that they had one last year. And if they don't have one it's probably because they had a sufficient number of volunteers. But, based on the people I speak to, this offer is in no way a slam dunk. There aren't as many who this is a no brainer for as they would have hoped. I am one of them. This is a difficult life altering decision for most.

This company never does anything that makes sense. Every year gets worse that is the only guarantee with Verizon.

The corporation tax cuts didn't do much for vz employees. Gave Billions of dollars to vz Corp. Not only did it not roll down to the Vz employees but it was used to outsource jobs. Some day something has to give. There is nothing good in the future for the American workers.

The company is looking for "a number", If they get that number with the enhanced severance package then great. If they don't, more layoffs are a given. Remember, even though the supposed last group date on the books is June, 2019, you have to declare now (November, 2018). So, if the number is not met by November, 2018 the layoffs/RIFs will occur. Always remember that Wall Street expectations have to be met by December 31.

Nope. Thats why there is a November deadline. So they may quickly resume RIF's after.

So I would say we have a solid two months of not having to look over our shoulders. Wow wee....

I wouldn't expect any until at least after june of next year. that's last wave of off the payroll for buyout.
