Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Sad but true

The newspapers do not care about this. A great majority of the people getting laid off are certainly over 40 as they are making a good salary. I have seen this throughout my years at this company. Most of them will not be replaced and if they are they will be replaced will recent college grads at a fraction of the cost. This is the new way of doing business at AIG. They are loosing a lot of talent and you can not put a price on that as you well can see.

What @VlfJ07I-wyl said is true. The main goal of layoffs at AIG is to get rid of people who earn the most. The company wants to save the most money it can by disregarding the fact that getting rid of its best people will cost it dearly in the long run. Not to mention that this is clear cut case of age discrimination. But as it was stated, the media simply doesn't care.

No new underwriting.

No profits

There's just too many people.

So, letting go of them.

Can't hold on to them...not when you can't afford them.

Glad to see that people are starting to take a look at the age discrimination aspect of these layoffs. As tempting as it is to shred any reminders of AIG, I would encourage people to hold on to everything for years.

well now that another hurricane is happening, this will further give them reason why they had a bad 3rd qtr and not due to BD

These layoffs are being done in a slow methodical way specifically to avoid attention. no newspaper will care about layoffs taking place over a 6 month period.

The only thing the news is concerned about is AIG's quarterly earnings and losses. Can't wait to see what 3rd qtr reveals

It seems AIG is getting rid of all the “middle“ people. They have a whole bunch of very expensive executives and a whole bunch of young people fresh out of school. I think that middle layer is so important and will cause many problems for AIG as they continue to get rid of it. I have heard about several seven-figure errors over the past year or so because that middle layer was watching all that stuff and taking care of it. The people at the top and the new employees have no idea about all the important processes that must happen in order to account for and collect the billions of dollars in claims payments, premium billing and reinsurance.

I actually got a response from a newspaper today. I provided what information I could. Hoping they will look more into it.
