Anyone notice/consider STI ‘bonus’ issue on buyout

Vz is including STI bonus at 100% in offer sheet for 2018 sti. Yet if worked just another day in 2019 you woukd be eligible for full bonus in 2018 anyway. Let’s say VZ gives 90% bonus. So, the buyout really is only giving 10% over the sti through taking the buyout than you woukd get if on payroll on 1/1/2019. So, factoring in the sti in the buyout is really a big nothing.

Remember your manager can change your STI before it is paid out due to 'performance' issues they may come up with at the last minute.

Many of these posts are incorrect. Best to review the FAQ or get on the daily HR call at noon and ask for clarification.

IT does not give 100% of STI’s to everyone. They skim $ from “lower performers” and give it to “top performers”. A good portion of IT haven’t seen 100% in years. So you could stay into 2019 and get 80%..... YMMV.

The totals are correct. There are 2 separate parts of the grand total. 1 part is severance and 1 part is STI. If you work until the end of 2018, you qualify for 2018 STI whether or not you take the offer. It might not get paid out at 100% of target if you don't take the offer, but you will still get 2018 STI. This is what the OP was referring to (2018 STI shown as part of the offer when you are going to get it anyway, probably at 70-90% of target).

The severance total uses target STI+salary to calculate your total compensation, then divides that by 52 to get weekly compensation, then multiplies that by years of service to get the total severance pay. If you have been there long enough to get 52 weeks or more, you will get your full yearly salary + your full 2018 STI again. But if you qualify for only 6 weeks of severance, you are definitely not getting double 2018 STI. And 2019 STI only applies if you work in 2019.

Remember 2018 STI is for time worked in 2018 and pays out in 2019.

so the totals on the microsite are wrong? are we or are we not getting an extra STI added to our separation payout AND an additional STI both at 100%? hours worked in 2019 will be an added prorated STI?

The FAQ states that if you take the offer, you will receive 100% of 2018 STI. Only people who leave in March or June of 2019 are eligible for 2019 STI (paid in 2020), also paid out at 100% of target, but for the prorated period you actually worked in 2019. No one taking the offer is getting full 2019 STI or any 2020 STI. Why would they pay you 2020 STI when you left in early/mid 2019? However, they ARE using your 2018 STI target to calculate your total compensation, so if you are eligible for at least 52 weeks of severance pay, you are effectively getting 2018 STI twice.

If your exit date is 12/28, you get an STI for 2018 at 100% and a STI for 2019 at 100%. There is no easier way to state this. If your exit date is in March or June, you will get a prorated for 2019 and I believe a full 100% for 2020.

Not true because it's usually funded at 85% to 90%, here they are funding it at 100%. It's not a huge difference but it's a few thousand dollars.

Incorrect. You will get your 100% STI for 2018, no matter what if you are an accepted volunteer. If you off payroll date is 12/28/18, you will also get 100% of your 2019 STI. If your off payroll date is 3/22 or 6/28/2019 you will get a prorated STI funded at 100%.

Yes, they are giving the bonus tomyou you already earned in 2018, not the bonus for the 2019 buyout weeks. So, really no bonus at all in the buyout.
