Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Get ready folks for the LR time of the year!

It's widely known and now confirmed that early October will yield a large blood bath in SJC and RTP. Most BU's impacted, including the largest. The goal is to get rid of the "older" workers (that are left) and H1B applicants with green card submissions.

i guess ASR9k is the only somewhat modern and polished/saleable box we have left in the SP arena?

big bosses posted a blog entry on it.

https://blogs.cisco.com/sp/cisco-asr-9000-reloaded

the ncs6k was DOA. they have 1 real customer.

the CRS family continues to make some $$ on replacement/upgrade market but the final iteration crs-10 is 6 years old and does 400G/slot - atleast its reliable

the ncs5500 is nothing more than POC/demo grade. its about the most unstable and buggy router one can dream of.

then a few optical transport boxes most of which are EOLed now...

Ncs5500 to replace Asr9k bwahahaha

Asr9k was built by gods if you consider the 5500 quality, process and team

I was told that ASR9000 will end at least from the engineering’s perspective. The new platform is NCS5500 which has shown all kinds of design flaws and quality problems. Most of the good managers and engineers from ASR9000 have been let go and driven out. They were replaced by friends and family in NCS5500 from Southern Asian continent.

How will we even function if 30-40% gone? Sounds like taking on half of someone else's job for those remaining. They keep saying we're going to stop doing certain products/programs but I'm not seeing that.

people think too much of the pkg. unless its the pre-retirement job, its better to seek out a good opportunity and move than wait for lots of cisco resumes to hit the job market.

What % are we talking about? I understand it might vary from team to team.

in SP routing the rumor is 20-30%. not surprising - it is in the worst shape of all csco product lines - years of failed products, dying products, late products, inept management at all levels, out of control pe/de types (with manager blessings) trashing the xr code quality, no real demand for our wares .... i dont think leuba will save our nuts on this.

other BUs are probably in various levels of better off and have less to no impact. my friends in security report a steady situation with bonus and promos happening and some areas of enterprise are seeing good investment - pe/de are busy pulling strings and calling in favors to migrate there, just as the herd stampeded to insemi earlier cycle. they will reinvent the xr wheel there using xe.
