Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What level is pay grade 8 at Intel

I have an offer to join Intel at pay grade 8. I have a PHD in EE from a good university with 5 years of industry experience. Is grade 8 an appropriate pay grade for someone with my background? What percentage of Intel is above and below pay grade 8? One of my friends who works for another big tech company told me that pay grade 8 was considered only mid level (~50%) at his company and new PHD grads with no experience would be paid at that level. Thanks for your input.

I just left Intel. Pay inceased by 40%. And no I didn't go to bay area. I relocated to a lower cost GEO. You shouldn't join intel at 7 or 8. Come here once you have established yourself. This is a place where fossils come to get embedded in political rocks. Not recommended. If in software go to FB Google LinkedIn Amazon Uber Netflix. If in HW go to NVIDIA Apple Samsung Mediatek. If in Politics you are being lowballed. You should join as a 10. Just FYI the CEO position is also open. In case you are interested...

Grade 8 is what I would expect. I went to a top school and was hired at grade 7. I had two exceeding expectations and one outstanding to be promoted to grade 8 after 4 years at intel. In hillsboro , you should expect base pay to be around 140k, and this does not include bonuses. Feel free to ask any further questions. Intel is a great place if you like to work with bright minds and be challenged. The soft skills that you acquire by working with “difficult “ people will also help you a long way.

If you know how to change the battery on your car you are already better than half the PhDs working at Intel.

If you have any confidence and talent go work somewhere where your skills are valued.

A PhD would normally start at 7, with experience 8 makes sense. And the fact that it's roughly middle grade doesn't mean it's the median, that's not how a pyramid works.
