Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Colorado Springs layoffs today

Confirmed. Various GBU units affected on the support side, so I'm sure it's not just the Springs that got hit today.

The ones I've personally seen leave are the highly experienced, middle age, white men if that is an indicator of what is to come or have come.

For me, I'm getting my resume ready.

to the OP, no one knows what GBU's do anyway. what does GBU Support actually Support? I have people in Springs and they did not mention anything.

to the person whining about support asking for logs, if you are so smart, why are you opening a support request? figure it out yourself. or maybe you are not including the logs that are actually being requested? do you have any idea how much a support engineer is hounded on a daily basis by multiple managers, directors, senior directors, escalation managers, critical account managers, customer success managers, duty managers, etc etc etc telling them to not ask for logs that have already been requested and to not do this or that and to do this or that instead. dealing with customers who don't have the first clue about how to use the product or are doing something so off the wall with it that no one else has ever attempted what they are doing.

and of course, the products don't work, if I owned a company, I wouldn't let an Oracle sales rep in the door.

Have to say that Oracle support lately is next to useless. Instead of providing solutions they keep on asking for irrelevant logs etc and copy-pasting documentation in their responses.

there's a reason for that. It's not going to get better, it's going to get worse. Avoid Oracle products.

I am the OP, and yes, what you heard is correct. I'm seeing "them kids" in my floor and in the cafeteria and seems to be increasing every day.

If I were a customer, do I really want to stick with a company who is letting go of their most knowledgeable people? Specially when I have a Sev1 24x7 SR(ie. production down)?

Also, heard that at least 1 manager was let go too.

1eut, I heard the same. Good people with a lot of years of experience. I was RIF'ed over a year ago but it STILL annoys me that the week after, they called and asked if I could do some client engagement. Be cheaper if they kept me on, since I upped my hourly rate by over 3x.

I hear they are filling the jobs with wet behind the ears kids who know the concepts, but not how it all fits together and are ticking off the clients.

Good luck to all.

I was able to see based on my linkedin network and msgs that floated around in groups that large number of Support staff at oracle were sent home in mid week layoff.

This was large scale and across many BUs and was mostly with people with lot of experience in oracle. (9 out of ten people that I have heard about were atleast more than 10 years experience).

Other GBUs around the US were also hit. New hires overseas are still going through for same GBUs.

Nothing like seeing someone walking the green mile to get you motivated to not be next! Good luck and sorry to hear about your colleagues.
