Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

how is the Sourcefire aquisition doing under security BU?

their hardware appliances are called Firepower now and looks like a large team. have they done anything big/new since the deal closed in 2013? do they have good sales and successful cloud native ports of their solutions now? their founder is still there.

the security BU from outside seems like a mosaic tile of large numbers of acquisitions over the years, each with their own history, solution, hw and sw. does csco just maintain them as cash cows or take it forward to next level?

You can call this, the mother of all f---ups.

Immature products that are a decade behind competition, and won't believe anywhere near feature parity before 2024.

Oh, don't get me started on those bugs either😂

Firepower is last of the acquisition which is fetching revenue. In Bangalore hiring is at a top speed with global salary offered (expect close to $130K for G10/11) . Firepower, policy and appliance business are having very big team in Bangalore by 2019. The only poor side is that new Indian Engineers are not that capable as Snort team.

generally i perceived east coast cos / RTP cisco to be more stable in terms of employees not jumping ship every few years. sourcefire was maryland per wikipedia.

On the US side, I would say that Sourcefire has been one of the more successful SBG acquisitions. Typically many acquired employees decide they don't like corporate life, so they wait a few years to get vested, and then bail for another startup. This did not happen so much with Sourcefire, which still has a number of quality engineers 5 years on. The product is pretty solid. Lots of focus on 'quality' i.e. quit writing so many damn bugs.

In general, Cisco security BU does not do cash cow or next level with acquisitions. Instead it's all about integrating the product into the Cisco ecosystem.

They are hiring big time in Bangalore upto Director/PE level. US team not sure how big it is now. Very cool team and life can be settled for next 5-10 years.
