Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

New Wireless/Connection Center—-Success or Failure?

How’s it working out in your clubs? Seems they just sell Direct TV as usual unless a member actually walks in wanting to buy a phone.

I agree with what somebody said up above when I was in Wireless electronics and photo we were a family we knew what everybody was doing we covered each other's breaks and days off most of us over there are old timers and have been there 17 plus years now that they have eliminated my position which I've known about for months because of this site. I asked my manager repeatedly if he knew anything about it My manager continued to lie to me and say he knew nothing about it. Finally I printed him the information I got off the wire and I told him maybe he would want to read it. 2 hours later he called me in his office and still told me he knew nothing about it. But handed me the information about what was to happen. now I had to step down go part-time and in department I can't stand being in. The very next day after I was forced to take the job offer ( they told me I could not think about it if I wanted a position I would have to sign it now) they adjusted my pay upward because of a minimum wage adjustment and then put me in a department where they took it all away. The very next day somebody quit in our electronics department I asked our GM if I could stay there he told me no they were way overstaffed (2 electronics associates and 1 photo) and they needed me in the other department. Since then they scheduled me in photo a day here or there and they are always calling me over there for something. Today I will be helping the wireless guy with an issue they have with a member. And now rumor has it they are going to open a rec for 2 positions in electronics! you can bet there's going to be an Open Door on this one! Ever since we've had this GM you can walk into the club at any given time and you hear nothing but Associates complaining about everything. Sam would be turning in his grave.

Our Club is up 20% year to date and wireless. Before they took over we were down 10%. It may be different in other clubs but someone had mentioned wait until the end of the year and all the new phones to come out being why they are up. But if you pay attention to the phone release schedules they release new phones the same time every year in most cases. The new service has done better companywide from what my manager has told me. They will have to work for commission so they are more engaged and not complacent. I know some clubs had really great teams but most of the companies wireless departments were average at best.

Hmmm let's see... The note 9 was recently released along with the iPhone XS. Holidays are upon us. Come back on here and tell us how sales are in January. I'll be more impressed.

Does no one know how to use KPI??? Sales are up in a lot of clubs and other associates no longer have to watch the lazy wireless associates texting on their phones all day. Sounds like a good change to me

Why is it if someone gets on here saying something positive you people attack them. That is true in my club. These DTV people are way better than ours were. I'm not a manager. You people are embarrassing. Never have I seen such disrespect towards someone who post positive things. No wonder your clubs are in such disarray. With your negative attitudes and sh--ty demeanor. Ridiculous

And the only way to get a higher paid spot is to become a lead or go overnights.

I guarantee these DirecTV people are not the cause of the 60% increase. All of us who have worked in wireless know that there are certain times of the year where sales are up. We are going into that time right now. Also this is when all the Samsung note and newest iPhones are released. Then there is also, your out of the ordinary sudden busy times. Even if the associates got higher paid positions doesn't mean they are happier. When I worked in wireless and photo, there was such a good work ethic and flow with all of us - wireless, jewelry, electronics and photo. We rotated our lunches and breaks so we all knew where someone was and there were enough people to help members. We helped each other out when needed, and covered each other if there were call outs or someone needed to switch. We were absolutely a second family. The way Sam Walton would have liked it. Not anymore... They took my spot away, and we all know photo and jewelry are marked to go in the future. @1ufh you just can't be serious with your comment. I'm gonna have to say you're a manager that's still trying to keep the moral higher. It's dead across the country.

My club is doing a great job. It has been a huge improvement. Our sales are up almost 60% in connections. Members love it and so do we. Also, the associates that worked there are all in better higher paid sports. Hopefully it's this good in all clubs

The wireless kiosk employees at my club are overly aggressive with the members, to the point where they enter and walk by Member Services to avoid them.
