HP will be very interested in our toner, development, and fusing technologies. We are probably the best in the world at all three. The culture in those areas will need to change/improve but they are all the biggest money making entities within the company. If Xerox does not come to an agreement with Fujifilm/FX we will have nothing left to offer after 2021. IMHO, it would be a huge win for HP if they can bundle and buy those three business centers. All Fujifilm/FX really want are our distribution channels. An HP deal will be much more lucrative to shareholders unless Fujifilm/FX makes us an offer "we can't refuse." Which is possible since Japanese companies are subsidized by their government.

Pure conjecture here: So, if MIF is being moved to GIS, AND Xerox Direct is downsizing sales/service force, AND GIS is much more profitable than Xerox Direct..and is GROWING in most markets...The question is...Why would HP be interested in purchasing ALL of Xerox? HP needs direct to business distribution in the A3 market. So, why not buy a cleaned up, newly MIF enhanced sales arm called GIS? Just looking at the tea leaves...no insider information...just thinking out loud.

Good thing we just brought in a new general counsel to help with the gymnastics.

HP buying Xerox was a rumor making the rounds last summer (2017) even before the Fuji and Ichan mess. It's sticking around because there are now a bunch of executives with HP ties in key roles leadership roles at Xerox. That said, a run-up with HP would give the combined company a +40% market share in certain fields, which would likely run into DoJ corners over a potential monopoly. It's doable with some gymnastics around selling pieces here and there to make the Feds happy; but, why would HP buy a struggling company? Now, I could see HP buying PARC for instance...
