Typical of Allstate, a reduction in force within Technology Services, especially Northbrook, and cowards do not announce it - this is the state of Allstate today - a lack of transparency from the CEO, CIO, VPs and Directors. And they wonder why their employee surveys are terrible. The morale s---s, Look elsewhere. Allstate ain't for you.

So, you were a VP somewhere, but an adjuster for Allstate ? You’re career is really taking off !
The employee surveys and CI and feedback metrics are a colossal joke. People have made lots of constructive suggestions and nothing changes and home office is staffed by inept id--ts. Claims went thru a vendor program where the quality s---s and prices are not competitive and total farce. And, when employees TRIED to use one of the 3 vendors that did the least worst quality work, home office instituted a random assignment system because we had guaranteed contracts with each vendor promising them volume! Literally total joke system worse results more money and people running into asked no input from field. I got 2 years and out this place has steadily become a farce in business and not surprised dropped 4th market share.
Ok where is mgt defenders of the faith which again why are you here if this board is for layoffs/lack communication, and huddles? Fluff waste of time what do I know only been in business 30 years including as V.P.
BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) calculates cost of living as all inclusive, meaning it includes health care costs. I don’t know if it does or doesn’t, but as far as the average merit increase goes, a company needs to be competitive with its compensation practices. If it’s not, they experience high turnover, which is more expensive. Hopefully, they’ve done the research to understand what competitive pay is. If not, bad for employees and shareholders.
Cost of living increase for SS is around 2.8%. That means a 3% merit increase has you breaking even. Add the increased burden of shouldering more health care expenses. I believe you should take care of your own first. Plenty of profit to share. A family could go bankrupt shouldering the thousands that have to be paid out of pocket in medical expenses before coverage kicks in. I have seen it first hand. 3% does not cover cost of living. And the cost of living needs to be recalculated around the country. The way Allstate has it now the country is broken down into four sections of pay. It needs to be rebalanced.
I don’t disagree with the anything you had to see, except the average merit increase (which assumes you’re at least middle of the pack from a performance perspective) is usually around 3%, which has historically been right around cost of living increase. That has nothin to do with bonus’s or stock grants for bonus eligible managers.
I’m all for capitalism. However the great performance doesn’t mean cost of living raises for anyone below senior management level. Where are the profits going? Allstate gives away millions to charity or purple purse. Travel Budget is slashed. Glenn Shapiro is now saying 200M needs to be cut in 2019. NO One that I know of in Band D or lower gets invited to the Sugar Bowl. How much is this costing the company to pay for airline and hotel. Allstate has become very elitist. Are we cutting expenses for everyone? No, it’s a do as I say not as I do. Why give us surveys? Allstate is going to do whatever they want. Why do they care to even ask.
I can only speak for Claims, but the reality of the data/numbers, is much different than what you read on this board. Surveys reflect 85-90% of employees will be with the company a year from now, if its their choice. The voluntary turnover numbers are less than 15% (non call center) when the economy is almost at full employment.
Doesn’t sound like a mutiny to me.
They have no idea what they have done...
A fair observation, and I can’t disagree. I will say there is a fine line between 100% transparency (great for employees), and premature disclosure of business strategies that may put the business (and by extension, customers or shareholders) at risk. Any company that says “we’re 100% transparent “, is either lying, or not serving all its constituents. Leadership walks a fine line in trying to determine what to disclose, and when, and still being “transparent “ with its employees. Out.
Let us get back to the original post. The fact is layoffs or RIFs do happen as part of a normal course of business. But what Allstate has become, is a company that seriously lacks transparency to its employees. There have been a few new leaders at Allstate, including a new CTO. Transparency does not seem to be in their DNA. What a way to start at a company by immediately losing trust of your employees and negatively impacting their morale.
This is not really a middle management issue, this starts at the top. These decisions are not typically made by middle-management, often they are told hours before this occurs and themselves are victims.
“Tough guys” like you are quick with the STFU’s behind the anonymity of a board like this. I’m thinking you’d think twice if you were next to me. Tough guy.
They posted on this board when they thought there was a story about large scale layoffs in the Chicago market, associated with the introduction of QuickFoto. When it turned out to be a much smaller impact, no story. There were 2 other Chicago area companies that had much larger layoffs at the same time. That was the interest. Not our margins. Not our market share. Certainly not the fact that your leader leaves early on Friday.
You clearly have anger issues, require remedial grammar and spelling help, and probably need a job.
Dumb @$$ the Chicago Tribune POSTED on this board in threads before asking for employee feedback. Name and phone number. Remove thy head from @$$ manager or stfu before you respond. They ARE interested heck im interested why we keep losing market share I’m guessing c-ap leadship non focus on core business and id--ts running asluym.
Do you really believe the Wall Street Journal or Chicago Tribune has an interest in your stories about your unit leader leaving early on Friday, watching videos on his/her computer, personal phone calls, or being an ineffective leader, in your opinion ?
Journalists being assasinated.
Bombs mailed to politicians and media.
Most important mid term elections in 8 days.
Yes, I’m sure they’ll be knocking down your door for this Pulitzer story, but the real bonanza for you will come in the movie rights !
There must be a home office unit dedicated to responding to posts. hey, journalists from Chicago or Wall Street post your contact info I have my bona fides and stories to tell that won't breach propriety but will illustrate idiocy of mgt. PLEASE reach out.
Hey OP I understand we work and earn dollars as producers or claims that pay for home office id--ts running the asylum. Best you will get here is “you can speak English” as if informal internet is peer review journal or some such nonsense. Managers at Allstate care about one thing : their own jobs. So...pile on manager lurkers (again I am baffled? Why would managers be on this board rolfmao who knows I give up) but I feel for you and hang in there. My advice : IGNORE Corp messages and prepare for yourself because Glenn or whoever has his platinum parachute (didn’t he run Liberty Mutual into ground then bail out?)
Whatever. This company is biggest farce yet and I will get hater responses saying stock is great whatever — your welcome I did that for you cause managers I see in my unit watch movies on computer, chat with family and flex 4-5 days week. But you upper management types wouldn’t care would you.
That’s right I’m bitter and don’t know what I’m talkng about. YOU ARE BEING HAD BY YOUR LEVELS OF MIDDLE MANAGEMENT allstupid.
Why am I on this site ? Because I want to be. Not going anywhere. I have a point of view. If you don’t like it, you get off.
Should have been announced internally to the business unit, certainly not externally, and not company wide. The person who posted this thread WAS NOT a part of the reduction, and those who were didn’t give a damn about how it was communicated. They had bigger worries.
For those telling me to get off this site , F off. Free country, and I was asking a legitimate question, making a statement. You can get your snowflakea** off the site.
@Vw3sQxY-unb You look like you are one of those management guys that does not believe in transparency. This was not even announced internally. So next time you are part of letting go people at least have the decency to announce to coworkers.
Obviously YOU were not the a part of the "small" headcount! Take your heartless comments elsewhere!
At least internal meeting to clarify company direction. ATSV does not employ 40,000 people. In compare to number of people in IT this is much higher percentage.
I find it amusing that the people who troll this site that are so eager to to deliver the ole mgmt. smack down to any unhappy person who voices his opinion. I am assuming Allstate The Layoff is the place to express these views. So if you are so happy with your job, why do you come here to quell the seeds of dissension? Its not like he brought it up in huddle on company time. If you are so happy with your job why would you even be on a page like this anyway? Safe to assume the Dungeons and Dragons game got canceled then.
Announce it to who ? How? NY Times ? Sometimes when people are laid off on a large corporation with many departments, there’s a limit to how and to whom you communicate. If we were exiting a business, yes. Reducing small headcount in a corporation of 40,000, no.
