Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Concerned about the numbers.

I keep hearing large cuts by the end of the year. Large like Network Assurance cut in half. Management and hourly. Would it be better to go, or stay and try to work with the demoralized remaining half. Holy c-ap twice the routine work, twice the projects, twice the night work. I wonder if they will still be preaching no overtime. Probably twice the contractors.

Sorry uib, you must have Network Assurance job descriptions confused with the Directors.

"with median employee direct cost of $200K (includes benefits, etc.) & indirect cost (allocation of overhead - rent, office, etc.) approximately 40,000 employees need to be cut (40,000 FTE x $250K $USD) should make $10B Opex reduction target."

Hans says $10B over 10 years. That's $1B/year. @ $250K/employee, 4000 employees = $1B per year.

cutting 40K employees would be $100B of OPEX over 10 years.

US Cellular cut their management and field staff in half a few years back and then went to a ticket dispatch system and utilized more contractors. They are still operating that way today. I wonder if that's really what IOP and the new fast desk is all about. It's going to be hard on managers that lose their employment, good paying jobs like that are hard to find. Best of luck to everyone!

Network Assurance has already been cut deeply in my area, I can't imagine them cutting much more, much less half. I think contracting parts of NA is coming, that has not worked out well for Sprint.

Why is this the case?

also, target may go higher if we keeping bleeding subs to t-mobile and sprint

Half the field staff? Why not just contract out the whole thing? Might as well race to the bottom and become another Sprint.
