Layoffs started today!. They let go of Trainers in Marketing and Sales, do not know how many and if they received any type of severance. Really sad.

I have heard that 10/19 is the start and will go over time. Departments that are top heavy may get the brunt of it first such as labor relations, hr, marketing and sales is what I have heard. No lucrative severance packages. If you have seniority, you may want to see what you need to do to exercise your right to bump. Fritz is saving his butt and does not care who will be impacted.

30% reduction in admin groups and some ops support functions is definitely happening. 10% will be by end of month and likely before the earnings release. I'd look for the next 20% to happen faster than previous poster stated. 2 regions and likely at least 4 SU mergers. Hard to see how these cuts can happen but buckle up its going to be a bumpy ride

Workforce reductions are a given, but the real question is how? The last buyout/severance package was very lucrative. I believe the thought is that the next round will be much less. Employee engagement is at an all time low. UP knows they don't have to offer as much in order to get people to line up to leave. I expect half of the value of the 2017 severance...

We were working a derailment in Ogden last night and all the managers there were talking of a BIG meeting today to relay the restructure plans. All the managers are fearing for their jobs. I know Utah and Denver Service Units will be merging and system wide restructure there will only be two regions, Northern and Southern. But merging two service units, the company will not have two directors for one department in one service unit. They will utilize managers and what are left of the foreman generals.

How accurate/factual is this information about the law department meeting about the 30% cuts over three phases? When is the first cut? Is the 30% both agreement and non agreement?

Wonder if UP is going to make any announcements or try do this under the radar? It's the third time this has happened in 4 years.

The Law department was pulled into a meeting today and told it will be 30% but broken down into 3 waves... 10% now, 10% mid 2019, and 10% end of 2019...

I hope Fritz ends up like Hunter.

What Union Pacific needs to do is offer retirement no matter what the age. Just reduce it accordingly. You work the full 30/60 100% you do 15 you get 50% etc etc. pay the current rate employees pay for coverage etc etc. they will see great numbers of people leave.

One of the exceptions on the WARN page is unforeseen business circumstances... could blocking an activist investor be seen under that exception?

There isn’t anything from 2017 either and that occurred. 2015 shows it was retracted.

There is nothing on the state WARN page implying there will be major cuts at Omaha HQ on 10/19.

This is 100% completely about greed.. and rich people needing more.. shareholders don’t do the work but they want more... UP just had a record quarter... but that’s not enough... Then you look around that place and say.... how many directors and Sr. directors does each department need? It’s ridiculous... so.. did we do this to ourselves as a company? Probably.... But d---beat Fritz will still be there and the rest is the inept leadership team.

M&S is letting customers know that parts of Customer Care will be defunct as of 10/19.

I haven't heard dates, but October 19th? Seems like a nightmare for HR in the middle of open enrollment. Then again, I do think it is coming soon. I heard one Omaha Sr. Director say their plans already submitted for 10/20/30% scenarios a week ago.

I'm just praying the severance is as generous as last time....my gut tells me it won't be.

Wow.. October 19th will be here ASAP! Does anyone know if they’re cutting the clerk driving positions that shuttle crews in Kansas City?

Is 10-19-18 the announcement date or doomsday?

We are being told Oct 19th, but we haven’t been given the numbers as to how many. Groups have been told their areas are going away and no one is safe... buckle up... it’s gonna be a choppy ride... Good luck for any of us finding another job in podunk Omaha with that many people hitting the streets.
