Why attend Oracle Open World this year???

Why attend Oracle Open World this year??? It's funny. I keep getting LinkedIn messages/postings from former Oracle colleagues about Oracle Open World. You know. Oracle must be in serious trouble when nobody wants to go OOW. It must be an all points bulletin to drive attendance to a dying technology.

Oracle is considering to fill OOW with commissioners in movies or local unemployed.

No need for accommodation and expense report on wine & dine with fictitious customers

Keynote idea: “with less customers and less revenue, the good news is: we’ll have more time for audits for our existing customers!”

I look forward to the day when OOW is the abandoned amusement park of tech conferences.

Perhaps they should have a keynote titled "Where did all the customers go?"

What will LE & MH's big predictions be this year?

In the past we've had that Oracle Cloud was going to overtake AWS.

We've also had "Cloud will never be a thing."

Attendance has dropped for the last three years. That was a contributing factor to moving the entertainment night to AT&T park from Treasure Island. On the plus side, it’s made getting a hotel room in the city considerably easier for Oracle employees. We used to get stuck commuting from SFO.

If the Oracle database can be autonomous, that will defeat the purpose of Oracle University that offering Oracle database courses such as Administration, Performance Tuning, Backup/Recovery, Oracle RAC and etc. What exactly DBAs will be trained when things are autonomous ??? Just hit a panic button and the database will be self-healing, fast again, auto-patching and recovered. Oracle University can simply shorten the course from 5 days to 5 minutes. That 5 minutes will train the dba on how to handle phone calls from end users and how to report back to the executives that the environment is perfectly fine. 5 minutes to train DBA how to write a crafty email save it to a template and autonomously sending them out. Why would any DBAs need to spend half a year to prep and getting certified?

I'm thinking LE will take the "Think Autonomous" Keynote

I am wondering what portion of the audience will be oracle DBAs. Wonder how much they will cheer when LE tells them they are no longer needed.

Seriously who would want to invest time in learning Oracle cloud tech now? -unless you work for Oracle.

You're right!! It looks like they announced the seat-filler "free" Discover pass on October 1.

It appears that one can get a free discover pass to all the keynotes...seat fillers?!?

Maybe Annapurna can make a movie.

I thought OOW was quite pleasant last year. Not too many customers. Virtually no prospects. Great weather. Plenty of hotels available nearby. It was nice to be to walk around, find a place to sit, and relax in the sun. All on someone else's dime!

I suspect it'll be even more pleasant this year :-)

2018 Oracle Open World keynote speakers include Bernie Madoff, Jeff Skilling, Ken May and Richard Scrushy. Birds a feather flock together. Haha

In some countries in EMEA the sales reps (mainly Tech) have managed to bribe several customers to attend OOW paying their travel costs with partners funds which also allowed the sales team to have a trip to San-Francisco on LE/SC expense.

You would have to pay me to listen yet another year or MH future predictions. What a joke.

OOW is a totally overhyped waste of time, plus unpleasant because of how crowded the city becomes. Stay home, you won’t miss anything. And yes, it’s it’s own profit center so of course whoever is on the hook for it is overhyping it trying to make their bonus

They're definitely spamming the world to try to get last-minute attendees. The empire is crumbling and OOW18 is a good exhibit of that. Looks like they're putting ES on stage for one of the Keynotes, that should be a real snoozefest. He's probably taking TK's slot on stage and not happy about it. I'm thinking LE will take the "Think Autonomous" Keynote, maybe MH for "Accelerate Growth in the Cloud", and ES gets saddled with "Oracle Cloud - Simply Better" . Ha ha.

Can't Oracle make the Oracle Open World autonomous? Why would any Oracle DBA or related technologists need to attend since their works can be 100% autonomous?
