Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Why is stock dropping so much in last two days?

And don’t waste everyone’s time with worthless negative replies and commentary. If you don’t like the company then do yourself a favor and leave. Looking for real insight here.

The P/E ratio is calculated by current stock price divided by ANNUAL EPS.

The trailing P/E valuation is calculated by the current stock price which as of Oct 12 close is$156.20 divided by the current 2018 ANNUAL EPS of $8.10-$8.20.

$156.2/$8.15 = $19.17 P/E

For some reason the websites are only listing one quarter of EPS for HON which makes the P/E ratio incorrect.

-2mzo: Ignore the $73 P/E valuations on some of the financial websites. It's likely skewed from the Garrett Motion and AdvanSix spinoffs effective Oct 1. The accounting numbers from the spinoffs probably haven't correlated yet on the NYSE. Those numbers are auto-generated from who knows where but Honeywell is usually about $20 P/E or something close to that. The Yahoo Financial site on the Statistics tab shows a Trailing P/E 72.49 and Forward P/E 17.67. The forward P/E ratio is what you should be concerned with. BTW, the lower the P/E ratio the better a stock value is.

OK if I answer your question with a question? Why is HON so high (PE now 73 after recent drop)? Are upcoming earnings going to be that strong?

Because a genius WS analyst said the stock needed a breather before starting another leg up. That and because the market was down 800 points. But really the stock has gone straight up for 9 years. That is a long time and nothing goes up for ever. The time to buy was 9 years ago when news was bad. News is good at tops.

Mmmm let me think about this question.

The Aero side of the business is getting out of the mechanical nuts & bolts side of the business, no more Engineering of anything mechanical, no long term Research & Development projects, nothing on the shelf for 5 years out, closing or reducing US sites. Other than that, I'm not sure.

"Why is the stock dropping " you ask then warn not to tell the truth regarding the drop.

Don't ask if you don't want the answer.

The global stock market indexes are all down over the last four to five days. These are normal gyrations in stock prices and has nothing to with the Honeywell stock. It happens from time to time.
