Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Nobody is safe

I'm not sure if I find people who are convinced they are safe from this whole reorganization thing sad or amusing.

Honestly, how can somebody witness what they have for the past several years when it comes to RIFs at Verizon and believe they are somehow safe?

(I'm not talking here about people who know the right people, they are in a category of their own.)

It would not surprise me one bit if the union in this company is history, too. All signs are pointing to the last contract, being just that...the LAST one. All the writing is on the wall. If you think that the union is going to save you, think again. Truth is, that the union could care less about you. It is all about the bottom line for them, too.

I work in the wireless network. If given the opportunity to join the union I would.

I’m no more or less safe then I’ve been for 20 years. I’ve been riffed, reorged and relocated multiple times.

I’m used to it and I’m somewhat prepared but it still better benefits and pay than anything else local so I stay and keep prepared. shrug

Those in the club get to move with their current leaders to new positions while their teams are left flapping in the wind. Opportunities only for the favorites.

Oh the union kool-aid. Ignorance must be bliss. Non-union packages net better results than union packages do. Comparisons are public. The union does not exist to protect you, they are a business. They only serve to get paid. To some extent, keeping people employed serves that purpose but not in-as-much that they care about any particular individual. In terms of separation, if there is no business, there is no union power to contend with. OP was 100% correct - no one is safe.

What about the people who are in the Union.

They are safe,right?

If the company wants me to leave, they will have to entice me with an EISP.

Then I choose if I WANT to leave or not.

People who work without Union representation are always short changed.
