Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco RTP vs WARN - interesting

Cisco is abiding by WARN

Cisco is laying off more than 500 total from RTP.

The media is reporting only 200-300 laid off at RTP but that was just one team of 300 at one point in time.

Other teams have lost 60 and so many BU’s are now non-existent.

The letter of the law has been observed in the slaughter house.

The CCIE Program is gutted.

The entire place is scarcely the Cisco of John Chambers pre-2000.

The AX-WOMAN told everyone this was to be the biggest thing in 34 years not 17 years and she hasn’t lied.

The company is not calling it a layoff.

This is deemed strategic to being competitive and essential to survival of the company.

The company will do well on the market.

Prior to this shake down the Senior Management was very concerned about the number of people who were simply leaving Cisco for something else.

This was only last month.

To counter the WARN law requirements Cisco has announced over 3850 job openings within the company at the same time.

That is creative.

So the net job reduction has not met the 500 number despite being much larger than the 500. Also the layoffs are staggered to meet the law.

The first round is announced in November.

December 21st will be when Contractors are released on or after the holidays. Even those who are freshly extended to meet company goals.

Red Badges don’t count for WARN they are not employees but make up a high percentage of Cisco’s entire work force.

They are uncounted and thousands are now jobless globally.

In January a fresh round of cuts will occur through the first quarter.

Those who are cutting off some now may also be among the unemployed but the law has to be met so there will be a delay.

This is strategic and not being labeled a layoff. This isn’t growth and not decline.

After all, Cisco met the law and created thousands of newer higher paying roles it just has not filled them yet - strategically.

but if you voluntarily leave - it's not really what we're talking about, now is it? I'm trying to get a real feel for how this action has impacted our RTP campus. if anyone has an idea of involuntary cuts - and whether everyone has already notified if they've been impacted, i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Remember those “voluntary agreements” to move on are not classified as layoffs.

that's not how WARN law works. no matter how many they hire, if they cut at least 500 jobs or close a plant, they have to file a WARN so the state can bring in job assistance resources. they could, hypothetically, layoff small numbers of people over time that add up to something higher - but net new jobs has no relevance on whether they're required to file a notice. but really, how do you know that? because i heard it was a much smaller impact here.
