59 with 26 years, I'm out of VZ and the industry. Time to do something else that is less demanding.

Same senario and not sure what to do. Keeping my 401k contributions going for another 2-3 years is priority. Will at least sign up for the package tomorrow and buy another week of torment.

what fgv said. if you aren't ready then don't pull the plug. At worst you will have worked for that severance. Just be proactive for your future or else it will have been wasted.

First thing is to not listen to these yahoo's. Talk to a financial adviser!

OP did not post enough information to really get a full picture. I'm also in North Texas, and see 100's of jobs with similar salaries in network engineering. I'm under 50, with over 20 years of service. I'm taking the offer, and will be looking for an employer that's more agreeable to me.

You have to look at the job market in your area with jobs that you're qualified for. This is a little late to the party to start that... I started right after VSP was announced. I marked my Linkedin profile as "interested in hearing opportunities", and have had 3 head hunters contact me in 2 weeks.

I'd start applying, but I don't know my last day. I could gamble that I'll be with the bulk on Dec 28, but wouldn't want to string along a potential new employer. I'll have time with the 60 weeks in my account.

55 with 22 years and I'm out of here, job market is strong right now , especially here in North Texas. IT jobs are abundant. I've kept up with skills and AWS certs so I'm not worried about finding another job. Plan to work at least 10 more years.

Well 60 weeks goes a long way to 3 years. If I had only a couple years I’d take that year off figure out retirement and then maybe gets part time job in there and enjoy a hybrid work/retire for a few before going all retire.

I have seven though so it’s too much of a stretch and I need the money here to keep socking away 50% of my pay to make seven otherwise it could be forever.

If you are riffed a year from now you will have received 52 more weeks of employment. Dont let someone scare you into taking the VSP. Do the math and see what works best for you. The usual layoff allows 2 weeks of pay for each year of service. If you wait until next year you will have gotten a raise and more time in

Take the cash and Get out now. The company will not be close to the same and I

Next year at this time you will be wishing you took the offer. Especially when you're RIFd and looking at a 4 week severance vs 60.
