Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Might be possible to move to another position within Cisco

I used to be a line engineering manager at Cisco before I left. Sometimes, during an LR, HR recruiters would reach out to me with an internal candidate who they thought might be close to a fit but was facing an LR. I always gave them a shot and even hired a few. I know at least a couple of my peers had the same perspective.

Sometimes, these candidates surfaced because their managers reached out to HR and advocated on their behalf. (in other words, you should use your network)

So Its totally possible to get a job during the 30 day period. However, its not substantially easier than finding a job elsewhere. I guess it can be slightly easier to get an interview, but you still have to be a fit for the job and show well in the interview. I would fully expect the hiring manager to reach out to people in your org for references ... something to keep in mind.

@1osm, I never said Cisco is forcing anyone to accept job offers. I said Cisco is offering better-than-ave severance packages because no one would want to work at a company w/ $ in the bank yet lays off people annually w/ a 2-week severance package.

@1yed, Cisco is not forcing anyone to accept job offers. It is purely a "Willing Seller, Willing Buyer" scenario.

| Remember Cisco is under no obligation to give you anything other than mandatory severance.

Outplacement services are required under CA’s or Federal WARN acts if the number of employees exceeds a certain threshold.

Cisco is not being generous by offering employees the services of LHH.

About the only thing Cisco is generous w/ is the amount of severance pay. Then again, once word got out that a large company like Cisco w/ a large cash balance was only giving 2-weeks severance & had frequent lay-offs, NO ONE would accept a job there.

How exactly are you being treated like garbage? When I got LR last year I was very pleased with the workforce reduction assistance Leigh Hat Harrison (spelling?) provided. Remember Cisco is under no obligation to give you anything other than mandatory severance.

Agreed, I have been applying for so many roles and then get emails we will move forward with others. So unless you know someone the chances of tranferring internally is next to impossible. Also, we are being treated as garbage after the lay off was announced. Very depressing to see this side of Cisco.

Better use energy and time and use the skill at a place where it is respected. Cisco is not a place for people who have self respect.
