Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

IT/EUS is being outsourced

For those still on the fence about taking the buyout option, Infosys was just the first sell off to happen and won't be the last. There's a reason several of these teams were not listed on the slides presented during the last webcast.

HCL Technologies actually won a bid to buy off EUS and other IT resources but it was canceled after issues with the Infosys agreement were found. Rebids are expected to happen in early January.

Dont let this surprise you since its been mentioned several times they are looking at these options to be "agile" and tried to make the national support queue work while laying off more than half of the people who do that work.

Dont fool yourselves into thinking there is a place for you at Verizon beyond that last day in June and click the button to volunteer! Executives are actually unhappy that so few have volunteered and were hoping the webcast would encourage more to. If they don't get the numbers they want then be ready for layoffs you don't get to volunteer for don't offer nearly as much.

I've been intentionally f---ng up my AYS stats for 2 years hoping for a rif. Nothing personal if I had any of your tickets assigned to me!

It appears if you aren't breaking the law or going on STD you can't get eliminated. I'm hoping they take my metrics into account.

@3swz I would agree with that concern of not everyone getting it, if they valued EUS, but they don’t.

There will be enough people who want to stay to allow everyone who wants to leave, go, and my guess is most will be gone on the 12/28 date. Not because it makes good business sense, or due to concerns of supporting revenue generating end users, but because they have no respect for the work.

They will quickly backfill the field tech positions for a 1/3 or less of the cost. Newbies will get coaching from team chats.

Toadying sycophants like Alin only care about app development, coding, and so forth and could not care less about the realities on the ground or how that work will get done. Desktop support is not s-xy. No one cares about network availability anymore, those days are gone.

Leadership will hang sr mgr level people out to dry when it comes to support backlogs or outages, if any sr mgrs are foolish enough to stick around for the train wreck.

There’s a certain amount of mourning that goes on when you leave a company you’ve been loyal to for upwards of a decade and more. And then there’s Stockholm Syndrome. Nobody in EUS should be looking to stay at this point. The problem is that they most likely aren’t going to give it to everyone.

So to those of us that don’t get VSP (and I may be one of them even with 12 years of tenure), I salute you for staying behind on the asteroid and dancing with the doomed.

"IT as a revenue generating department" is a constant recycled executive meme.. Pay no attention to those words because they neither know how to follow through or actually intend to make it happen.

What really p-ss-d me off during one of the webcasts was how they talked about converting IT from a "cost center" to something that generated revenue... you know, like how you make money for taking your car in for an oil change or are paid to go in for an annual checkup. Sure there are some teams in IT that develop products and thus turn a revenue, but for most of us we're there to make sure others have the tools they need to be successful - ensuring email flows, people can get to the web, Word/Excel open, etc.

First they will outsource you to Infosys.

Next, since you now work for Infosys, they will ask you to train another Infosys person (who is already working on several projects).

They will still keep you around for a few months, until the muliti-proj infosys person becomes an expert in your job.

Then they will offer you another job outside the state. But since you decide not to move yourself and family, which means you're going to quit (fire yourself) with no severance and no unemployment.

Just ask anyone who use to work on 3G UMTS/WCDMA at Lucent. Many of them now work at Vz.

"And now Lisa Joyce asking techs to document what they do and how they do it for the “VTeamers” left behind. What an a$$hat request."

Actually this push is coming from Alin and everyone I spoke with who knew him before he climbed the corporate ladder knew exactly what was coming. To Lisa's credit she apparently thinks all of EUS should take the buyout because of how poorly their being treated and is taking it herself. No need for a vp of EUS when there isn't an EUS.

yes if you are IT, you're going to be outsourced. The biggest hurdle they face is production access else all would be gone already.

Yes, this.

Wait OP, are you implying the national support queue was a bust? Why, the field techs were energized by the challenging, unfamiliar issues auto assigned to them from anywhere on the planet, on top of project work, local queues/walk ups, network and voip work etc., after half the staff was cut.

The national support queue was one of my best ideas!

Sorry former Verizon. Automation ideas, one or two people from Alltel will remember this name of a program. rtb16. It used to blow up every other hour.

Very true. I never thought I'd be sold off to another company so the Infy deal completely pulled the rug out from under me. I think they will continue to outsource in waves until pretty much all of IT is handled by Infy. The execs can't reverse themselves at this point or they will lose face. In order to make it cost effective, they have to continue with the outsourcing. More than IT will be outsourced.
