Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I assume the stores announced today and the last bunch weren’t promised severance pay?

@ixdl They cut our hours when our store closed so they could make more money for themselves.

@W3keLy8-pcd Yet the whole loyalty comes into play and get screwed in the end! I was working with the SM today and he being a d*ck because he was like did you hear the news? I was no what happened. The last associate that left the store after closing he put his two week notice. I was like well he needs to look for something else we are closing soon. He didn't like the way I responded, but its reality we will probably close in less than 2 months anyone that needs income will look for a job else where as this man.

I guess where people are very mad was they were expecting the severance pay to be an extra cushion for them, but as you can see seems no one is getting it after chapter 11. My ASM (and I don't understand people). She was freaking out that if no severance pay she will need to look for another job. I am give me a break lol. Being the ASM I would assume making much more than me she would have some savings, but as it seems she doesnt. I am pretty much ready for whatever comes at this point.

Nobody is "working for nothing", they still get paid for the time they actually work. Which during a store closing will be a lot more hours than usual. Severance pay is a bonus which companies that aren't on the verge of total collapse give to departing employees. And most store employees weren't eligible for severance anyway due to not being full-time.

Based on the last two rational responses it should be CLEAR to even the slowest gray mattered employee that you are working for NOTHING !!

And will receive NOTHING

This is one thing you can’t blame on Sears. Once Bk is declared severance owed becomes just another obligation that gets added to all the other financial obligations for the resources available. Unfortunate severance is an unsecured debt, so it falls way down on the priority list of who gets paid first. Zero chance at this point any of those folks will see any more checks come through. 33

No severance since bankruptcy was filed!

I know a person whose store closed mid Septemberer, had received 1 severance check but as soon as company went into ch 11, was notified the severance payments have ended!

Pretty rotten in my opinion when workers who have been with company for many years, stayed through the liquidation of their store, and then get robbed of their severance!!!

I understand companies are not required to even pay a severance but it's still pretty rotten of them to do!

The whole bankruptcy is a mess but current workers are suppose to put a smile on their face for the holidays and spread magic, but how is a normal person suppose to not worry what day the announcement will come that their store is next to close..

I think things are going to start snowballing with all the claims being filed and stuff.. Just looking through all the dockets on prime clerks website it looks pretty bad! Even the taxing authorities are filing claims
