How are corporate employees reacting to this? Are projects still progressing?

To the person doing the projects slated for 2019 +, that's how I felt working in the hub office. I was filing paperwork, managing reports, filing out attendance documentation sheets for a time in the future that most likely wasn't coming. I would think about how bustling and busy this work would have felt 30 years ago but now it just felt sad.
To the person @ HE who thinks the store employees are stupid, it is not that. To be honest, some of the new hires are stupid but the long term employees are not in my experience. It is a complex set of factors that keeps them there. Loyalty to each other being one of them and unfortunately being used to being controlled by the SGM as .

Before I was laid off at Hoffman, my director was so ridiculously 'gung-ho' on Sears, he reminded me of the crazed Colonel Kilgore in "Apocalypse Now"... even though the war is lost he still thinks things can turn around. If you look at the Prime Clerk claims it is just amazing how many people were screwed over by Sears, that docket is filling up very quickly. I was called by prime clerk about my payroll claim and he told me the court will allow it to be paid but it's not mandatory. Good luck with that I guess. It appears they haven't been paying bills for awhile now.

It's not that most sears employees are not smart, they just didn't know there was something better out there. I'm here to say after being layed off from the company 3 years ago, i now make 3x the pay and don't worry about money anymore. There is only one person to blame and it's Eddie Lampert.
He solely caused the demise of the company and should be help accountable. All sears employess should call Eddies private number and tell him how big of a scum bag he really is and what he did to the company is not cool. I see shld looking like toys r us with total liquidation. Eddie will be walking away with a lot of the company paying only pennies on the dollar. All current employees, should submit resume's to at lease 3 company's. I am absolutely sure you will get an interview, and a new better paying job. Share your information with people you trust (coworkers) for references. Don't be afraid to interview. Short story, 3 years ago when I found out my store was closing, I put in 3 applications 2 months before my store closed. I brought my cell phone to work with me every day.
While I was at work, I got called for an interview, and I scheduled it during my lunch. I asked my boss for an extra 30 min. and he said ok. I went to that interview, got the job, ate lunch then came back to work. My manager told me i would lose severance if i left before closing; I went and talked to the liquidator, and they let me work around my new job, and work only 30 hours. My new job agreed to let me finish closing the store and work part time until the end. I ended up making more money and working 60 hours during those two months. My manager saw how hard I was working and tired i was, so he talked the liquidator into letting me off 7 days before the end. I still got severance pay and the next day I went full time at my new job making 3x the pay I did at shld.
I was lucky that more store closed early, however, I was a very loyal employee, and it broke my heart after 25 plus years. I am happy I make good money now, but thinking about how much I miss my friends that worked at shld still make me sad, and always will. When you put so much into something, it's hard to let go, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and my Eddie Lampert rot in he double tooth picks.
It's a little surreal. People are continuing to do their jobs, working on projects for the future (2019 and beyond) while privately feeling that that future is very unlikely to materialize.
Most are have stopped caring or are starting not too; this will be the final demise of the company,

Most of us left at Hoffman are a little more accepting of reality that the average Sears employee at the store level apparently is. We know the whole company is going under soon, probably before Christmas honestly. The court documents show it. Most discussions at Hoffman these days center around trying to figure out how Eddie keeps successfully playing so many people, and how the store managers are managing to play the people under them. It truly is fascinating to watch. I know this sounds harsh, but the only conclusion we can come to is that most Sears employees are not very smart.
