Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

NETWORK

There are a ton of Network people leaving. I cant wait to see the first outage! The people who have built the systems are leaving and Verizon will fail. All because some stupid Swede that destroyed another company is here to destroy ours. Good luck Verizon, Im paying off my house and I already have a job lined up! I doubt Verizon will survive Hans.

"Sc-aping the bottom of the barrel when you are trying to spin the Challenger disaster into a cautionary tale of having workers leave the company."

Really -- it's "spinning"? Same principle, dude. You get rid of the people who know the network and replace them with people who have a college degree in whatever -- they don't care if it's Underwater Basket Weaving, as long they have a degree.

How are these people supposed to keep the network running, if they don't know it and there's no one left to train them?

Let me see if I've got @ghz's claim straight. Hans is going to sell off a $100B revenue business so he can run the 5G startup that he couldn't do at Ericsson? As a Verizon shareholder, I guess I still don't care how incompetent his story seems as long as it trades in its historic range, and I still get my dividends.

if you noticed the verbal chastize by Florida governor post hurricane michael, vz has no incentive to do extra since all carrier service and prices the same. no optical benefit any longer to get the public to use vz just total dollar and cents out of public.

"Have you all ever thought about total liquidation of wireline business?"

Absolutely, only makes sense. Question is, who would want it.

I'm an old f@rt myself but I don't disagree with Lmfao......

This Hans dude has said 5G at least a 1000 times since he started, that's his focus and that means that's Vz focus.

Have you all ever thought about total liquidation of wireline business? It will raise lots of cash and they don't need to take care of antiquated networks and people

Sc-aping the bottom of the barrel when you are trying to spin the Challenger disaster into a cautionary tale of having workers leave the company.

Like someone below said - it would be years of mismanagement by the same people who are too valuable to leave if they created a system where only a few could ensure business continuity in the face of a planned long term separation.

@szp, aka Lmfao, you miss the news of those space shuttle disasters after the youngins took over NASA. Read up on it and you’ll see that the old-timers, consultants, wanted to cancel out of concern for the O-rings in cold weather but were overruled by kids who lacked knowledge.

This isn’t space cowboys or maybe it is.

If the people who built the network and maintained it for the last 50 years are the only ones who can maintain it there as been terrible things going on for years.

Yea, just like how NASA could never send anyone into space again after all the rocket scientists and pilots from the 40s-60s retired. You are very important and you and a few thousand others hold the fate of Verizon in your hands/brains with your vast institutional knowledge that cannot be replaced, ever! Please do not go - this might cause the collapse of society as we know it since only you know how to build it and maintain it.

That work will slowly migrate to the union employees

I feel bad for the people left behind. They are going to have double the work and the same pay with no OT. Wireless need a union.
