Intel speeds up the launch of the 5G modem by six months

The article reports that it was stated from the company that the XMM 8160 5G multimode 5G modem will be available for manufacturers in the second half of 2019, which is six months earlier that it was originally planned. This news got me wondering if this early deployment of the 5G modem will give us an edge over the competition and secure our position as market leaders?

Yeah TSMC silicon

It is not alone. Intel will present a 28-nm 4G/5G transceiver for sub-6-GHz bands in zero-IF and 10.56-GHz IF for mmWave bands. It sports an M-PHY Gear 3 interface for MIMO and up to 800-MHz bandwidth with carrier aggregation. It is part of a 5G chipset that Intel announced earlier this month.

At least fire the people working on 8060 for their unproductizable product.

if anything, this was probably more a report-out on MR pounding his fists and dropping f-bombs saying icdg must deliver ahead of schedule. Now to see if they really can. Getting hot-and-bothered about it to the point where people give lip service to get out of MRs meetings doesn't mean they will actually hit that pull-in

@2byw

agreed

They have no clue whatsoever about modem development.

@wym So what is their argument here? That Intel cannot show XMM8160 silicon, so it will not be released in 2019?

Uh... what?

They are complaining that a modem cannot be demoed a year before its release?

Seriously... what?!?

That is all this article keeps going in and on and on about. Amazing. They have no clue whatsoever about modem development.

8060 was supposed to go into low vol production.

If 8060 was any good, wouldn't it have been productized?

Charlie seems to have missed the fact that 8060 was never going to be productized.

Don't read paid news in Forbes..instead read # SemiAccurate anslysis. Intel tries to pretend they have 5G silicon with the XMM 8160
