Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I hear oracle is going to do some major acquisition soon that is going to help it leap frog on IaaS. Did you guys also happen to hear abt it which is the target company?

I like the Sears/K-mart analogy. It will not end well, no matter what.

How is the NetSuite acquisition working out?

Better use of $7-$10B than buying back stock.

The money is wasted because that's all the investment there will be. They will shill out the money to buy the acquisition and then spend NOTHING on the integration of the technology.

Acquisitions are just for show. They can put out the news releases and make it look like they are doing something, when nothing will actually happen. They count on the outside world to not look at things too closely.

The Oracle beached whale will smash whatever it acquires while it violently thrashes itself against the shore.

Now, I’d stay at Oracle if I got to work with robot sharks with frickin’ lasers attached to their heads!

Say what LE?

We’re going to buy a cloud security startup called RoboSharko. Why?

Because they got robot sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their head!

Thing that strikes me is LE actually glimpsed the CLOUD future 20+ years ago but got bogged down with trying to make hardware consumer devices before there was high-speed network access (not dialup) for the masses of consumers. Would have been better to keep that future in mind in the then-present and work on getting the company ready for cloud. 2010 or 2012? Gee, who became the visionary managers around then...?

Wasted vision, lost opportunity for cloud dominance (or at least early start).

So, Oracle is planning to purchase another decent tech company and ruin them in the pursuit of a strategy that was forward thinking in maybe 2010 or 2012. No wonder they have little or nothing to show for this, while continuing to lose a customer base that is increasingly hostile to anything oracle.

Oracle and IBM merging will be like K-Mart and Sears merging. We see how that worked out.

Could be, but if they do it will be just another failure in a long line of failures.

Integration will be half-a--. The incompetent dev management will backstab one another for control. The good developers will leave. Nothing will ever be updated. It will just be same old, same old.

It doesn't matter, Oracle's time is over. LE better save his money for buying back stock to prop himself up.

Rackspace would make sense, I could see their private owners wanting to eventually unload it. SC could write a check to acquire them for less than what she's paying for buybacks and it would give ORCL a solid infrastructure provisioning environment unlike those fragile hacky scripts that they have now. I wouldn't consider NetApp IaaS.

NetApp, lol? Well, half lol. Self-dealing is popular at O.

IBM?

Maybe O should find a buyer for whatever IaaS assets it has and stick with the database.

Not seeing the google guys selling out to LE plus he couldn’t afford it anyhow. The acquisitions oracle is going to make are yet again going to be a total waste of time and money because they will not fundamentally change anything. Oracle is broken, its management is utterly incompetent, customers hate it. Pissing away money on acquisitions ain’t gonna change that!
