Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What about those of us left stranded?

I have been with VZ for 5 yrs. My division was completely re-orged in the VZ 2.0 initiative and most of it got the option to leave. Many of us ended up with no team and will have to be re-distributed to existing or newly formed teams, but nobody knows what that looks like exactly. I have asked repeatedly, in the Separation calls as well as the HR partner for the division I'm assigned to and they will not confirm future RIFFs, but they have pushed, very hard, for everyone to take this package. Then the VP held a meeting a called VZ2.0 an opportunity. Not overtly telling ppl not to take the package, but certainly softening the tone we've been hearing from HR. Does anyone know with any degree of certainty if there are any future layoffs planned? What are they going to do with ppl like those in our division who ended up stranded but didn't take the package? Are there any similar situations out in your divisions? The shift in tone was palpable for us, but without any solutions offered.

Were I the one from the fragmented team my uncertainty coping mechanism would asking for work and volunteering. Worst case you'll be distracted and busy until the end.

I suspect the 'waste your time to watch me work' conference call will be a thing of the past. Verizon could have saved 10Billion in efficiency by focusing on those who generate time wasting calls as part of self-proclaimed productivity.

The future (6-9 months) belongs to this willing to do the work of those fired in the prior 6-9 months. Second verse same as the first.

I would say once the dust settles they will move people around that the more important groups need to fill in and possibly shutter the groups that aren't neccerry to the everyday business. The one thing that seems constant is they are trying to get rid of or move around the PowerPoint pushers. You certainly dont need 5 ppl on a conference call and only one person is actually doing anything useful! So I can see some doing work that they didnt sign up for. That's the thing that always happens during a reorganization.

Here 22yrs and am waiting for the more work speech, but as long as they are paying me I will continue as usual.

The one good that will come from this is some movement between groups. Before this there were very little movement.
