What a shame. John Murphy was the best thing that ever happened to the site. A true visionary and way ahead of his time.

Remember winning the SC Governor's Award :)

@3slc changing the operating system and labeling c-ap/tier meetings had nothing to do with why Greer started to fail. HW failed Greer at the end of the day - moving R&O operations to service centers should have been a wake up call to everyone that the hourglass had flipped and time was running out. it was a matter of time after they moved what was a huge chunk of work out of Greer. Throw into that the fact that Greer R&O pulls the majority of revenue while the country is at war - we haven't been for some time. all of the writing was on the wall, a lot of people failed to read it.

A previous posting mentioned when R&O was a Shining Star and a T55/LT101 Center of Excellence. I remember those days. It was probably 8 or 9 years ago before SAP and when the site leaders managed the site. We had some great site leaders then: SW, TJC. Once the Phoenix offsite leaders got involved in the day to day decisions the site went bad. HOS made thing worse. What a waste of time with those many Tier meetings Many good people left HON or were RIF once SAP was installed. Glovia wasn't perfect but I think after 6 years of SAP I think Glovia was still better. I was forced out from HON a few years ago and looking back on it I was very fortunate when I did leave. I feel bad for those employees effected with this closing.

Yea sounds like Honeywell is not interested in the R&O work. Just like everything else in Aero they want 3rd parties doing the work and they can stick to selling parts. More sites to follow...

This is sad news for all at R&O. Is HR offering positions at OEM to fill Mangers? Techs? Is severance packages being offered?

@W8mW5gt-1rmc - According to “Brad”, those that apply at OEM aren’t necessarily guaranteed to keep their pay. His words were that he could smooth the way for 2 or 3 high salary techs on the OEM payroll, 30 or 40 would be a hard sell.

@W8mW5gt-1mlj - the volume is low. they are currently and have been for some time floating on zrit work from other sites (busy work no less) to maintain productivity numbers. there is a decent flow of T55 work, but the major contract is set to expire in 2019 with a competitor set to bid against them. if that contract were to be won by the competitor, there would not be enough work to support the site in any means. my best guess is that HW will end up farming out the T55 R&O work to Columbia as a service center much as they did the LT101 work to ITS, so flow to PHX won't matter in the long run. the Greer OEM facility is supposed to be posting a lot of jobs with the hopes of retaining employees, who even though they will have to apply and win the positions, will not lose any of their previous benefits if they win one, or at least that's what HR stated.

What is the volume of R&O work in Greer? PHX is the OEM for new T55 and they are no poster child for success. They had 100% OTTR to Boeing for years and years till HOS came along. Good luck getting any type of volume through PHX with only two test cells available that are already often occupied for days at a time. Almost 65 year old technology and they are more plagued with problems now than ever before. Feel really bad for the Greer employees, I hope all of you are able to move on to better opportunities.

@1pfo a lot of the fault lies at the feet of the ISC vp, who has screwed all of ISC with backlog at record levels, RIF'd workers, and p-ss-d off suppliers. Until he's fired, all aero is screwed.

If Greer OEM can’t get their feces consolidated and start shipping GOOD product, they’re screwed too. $40M behind in shipments and $4M in sc-ap. New site leader is on the ropes, and engineering complaining that they can’t maintain blueprint tolerance.

Sad for Greer R&O. Good people. Greer OE will only survive if there is more coating volume, but management keeps angering the main company that can supply that volume. To answer @fah: of course Aero leadership didn't think about that. They take the tinker bell approach. Wave the magic wand and ta-da, it just happens!

I wonder if leadership realized how much time and money (and skilled people) will need to be spent to qualify Phoenix R&O for all of the approved repairs that aren't already in place. And does Phoenix have the same equipment, etc. Based on past experience of this retiree, the answer is likely to be "of course, not" but make it happen to schedule anyway. Great people at both sites, by the way, and I wish them well.

Strange how Greer went from a Shining Star and the T55/LT101 Center of Excellence to this when the only thing that has changed is management. Management incompetence from the top down has driven this site into the ground.

It is moving to Sky Harbor R and O. 80 positions. I feel for all of the people affected. Hopefully if they want to relocate they will have the opprotunity.

That means those poor folks will not get their Match for the year 2019 if they are gone before Dec 15th 2019.
