Furlough terminology is normally used for agreement...they can call you back when needed. The workforce reduction layoffs for management unfortunately means basically fired. They can’t call you back. Severance packages normally have a clause to say you are terminating your employment relationship and can’t return.

Yes there certainly are some very important differences!! Talk to the RRB if you don't understand/believe me.

There's no difference. You can get called back either way because it's the same.

I've been Furloughed due to merger expenses and I've been layed off. I work in Mechanical, not sure what department you are in but where we are, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. It's merely a play on words. Now, why don't you go educate yourself and find some manners while your at it.

Biggest difference = Furlough, you will be called back to work at some point (when they need you). Layoff, forget it, find other employment they will not be calling back (they will replace you instead as needed).

Big difference between furlough and layoff. I don’t have the time nor the patience to explain so please educate yourself by looking it up.

A Furlough is a lay off.

This is true, my husband got notified too. It's a Furlough, not a Layoff though.

We were expecting this.

Good luck to all.
