Thread regarding Sears layoffs

what happens if you work from home during layoffs

i usually work from home, i think my manager was let go a few months ago so i haven't heard from her in quite a while, have not gotten an email yet for a meeting with HR, so i guess i'm ok for now. what happens if i'm at home and a note comes in for a meeting, but too late for me to drive in ?

@1njc LOL, with how bad some people are about checking their email, I could totally see someone keep coming to work after a vacation without realizing they were laid off. (Until the paychecks stop coming and the severance paperwork arrives.)

They will absolutely call you if you're not in the office. I was laid off while on vacation and found out when I checked my voicemails.

@tiu - this is the exact opposite scenario. someone never comes to work, and keeps getting paid, and the company forgot they exist!

No joke when I worked in service it was a game to see how long I could go without speaking to my manager. Most of the time it was a week or two once it was a whole month and not on vacation.

That was one of the subplots in the Office Space movie. Nobody ever told the red stapler guy he'd been laid off, so he kept coming to work.

@mmz LOL. That would make a good Dilbert comic.

They laid you off months ago, you're just too stupid to know it. WTF? You THINK your manager was fired months ago but aren't sure? Keep up the day-drinking dude.

They will lay you off over the phone that is the standard procedure for work from home people. You will be sent a box to send back with all your equipment.

stinks because a lot of us do care and work hard. hard to see people abusing the system and "working" from home when you can't get a hold of them, or people coming in at 9am and leaving by 3... its at the "Managerial" level in HE. They can take as many "vacation" days as they want and call it "working from home." news flash: if I see your reply is "sent from my iPhone" and you're "working from home," then there's a problem. God forbid the little guy asking to work from home because the commute would take 2 hours on a snow day.

kdv, sad to say, but I agree with you. Maybe this is a s---y place to work, maybe the pay and benefits are not the greatest, maybe I haven't done too much around here in the last few years, but why upset the apple cart as long as I don't get that meeting notice from HR.

You are a great example of why this company went to sh--. You don’t know if your Manager is still around since it’s been months since you spoke? Not that it’s entirely your fault but it’s mine blowing how this company is run.

You don't know if your manager is still around? You don't interface with your manager?

In the same boat. Last time I came in and looked at my cubicle, they were using it to store old monitors and chairs that would not roll anymore.

Sears forgot you work here. As long as you still get paid keep watching t.v and taking your kids to school on company time.

They can call you if you’re getting laid off from my understanding.
