Problem:. No matter who runs VZ, phones and services are a commodity and as such are subject to market changes. The only hope VZ has is ridding itself of wireline, can't happen by due to Government regulations and contracts.

On the VZW side, when you have 16+ systes you need to go through to activate a phone, that's bloat. They really need to clean up the number of systems, saw that my first day there year's go. Once Vodaphobe took the money, VZW was doomed.

Polish the resume and find something new, RIFs will continue until there is no one but the executive left.

I got news for everyone. You either get old or die trying. If you are 30, you WILL EVENTUALLY be 60, or you'll be dead. Carful about blasting those older than you. Time has a winning record of 100%. It's undefeated.

At least the valuable people are staying, the best and brightest and our hardest workers; the walking Credo awards among us. We can all honestly say that the smartest people we work with aren't headed for the door, right?

Another "Millennial".”

Bwahahahahah. Not hardly

I’m one of the “Silverbacks” that the dead weight millennials hate.

Going to sit back and watch Verizon burn to the ground.

@t-myt

No Verizon didn't have to "align it's human resource spend with T Mobile". T Mobile makes its money on low prices. Verizon charges much higher prices and "used to" differentiate itself by giving superior service. Two completely different business models. Now, apparently Verizon wants to continue charging premium prices and give c-appy service. That doesn't work.

"Eventually everyone will have to be let go and replaced with people at the going rate."

Right. You replace years of experience with people who play on social media all and run into walls while they're looking at their smartphones. You need to talk to Hans -- you're the kind of guy he's looking for.

The stock is down because they just valued oath/yahoo at a 200 million dollar valuation. So they are taking a 4 billion dollar loss. Good buy.

The valuable people were denied voluntary severance. The deadweight was given a nice parting gift.

"Loss of Human Intellectual Resources"

Between 1,000 and 2,000 of the more valuable and hard to justify losing employees were rejected for the VSP. They pressed the button but got denied. Verizon didn't just open the floodgates and accept what came out. Certain they are losing many good people but they decided who stays and goes. Like in a normal riff it always seemed like most of the more qualified and necessary employees were often able to find something else in the company.

When a company makes a move such as Verizon did It's look upon as positive . The stock should not go down. It normally goes up. There is a reason the stock was down graded. You can spin it the way you want. The stock market likes when a company downsizes.

Hans destroyed erricson and got fired.

Did you expect a loser to change with a new company?

He wont last the full CEO term.

VZ needs to at the very least align its human resource spend with its peers like T Mobile or go extinct. Verizon is to Sears as T-Mobile is to Walmart. Eventually everyone will have to be let go and replaced with people at the going rate. The VSP and the move to Infosys is a good start, but the ball is only getting rolling.

Correction:

Many companies have done the same and failed (Nortel is one), others almost failed and barely now coming back (Sprint, Ericsson) to name a few.

Sorry for the typo.

@Mad Money: I don’t disagree but there’s more at play than just RIFing to save money. VZ should have considered the loss of intellectual Human Resources which they did not do with an discriminate request for volunteers. Many companies have done the same and failed (Norte) it almost failed and barely now coming back (Sprint, Ericsson) to name a few.

I agree VZ has bloat and needs to get rid of some fat, but the id--ts that continue to make these stupid mis-steps should be shot.

Spend money now to save money later. It's not rocket science.

I can see why stock down. Any normal person can see the logic “spend money to make money” but who gets “spend money to save money” logic? Vz spend near 2 bill on this mgt buyout to try and save billions? The mgt could have been riff’d standard severance. Cold I know, but this is why I no longer invest in this stock.
