Labor Price Fixing in Portland Metro

Does anyone else ever wonder if the few companies here with large tech departments collude with other local companies to keep tech worker's wages low and hire mostly contractors?

It seems like mostly Visa hires and contractors in Portland metro.

That's not the case in all metros.

@WBW20ip-xay: The insource then outsource cycle is one of the reasons why everything is a mess. New CIO pushes big IT outsource initiative, quality goes to hell, next CIO pushes an insource inititive for quality purposes and pay and vendor needs spike, next CIO is pressured to cut IT budgets, so... rinse and repeat. Thanks for the exhibit A in what is wrong with Nike Tech.

Nike should just outsource all its IT to Infosys in India and base infrastructure in the cloud. No need to onshore anything at Nike anymore except for the guys changing resetting people's passwords.

Absolutely. I just went to a competitor as a contractor via another vendor. 100% wage fixing. Exact same rate for a position that is a promotion. I make the same “capped” rate here I made at Nike. My wages have been flat for a while because of this. Its getting old, especially since I’m now getting priced out of my neighborhood.
