Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

IT Layoffs - When in January

I'm currently in one of the IT Innovation centers (Not in Michigan), and was wondering if I could get some details on the upcoming layoffs. I feel that I'm on the chopping block and any details would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, I was wondering:

  1. Will layoffs be Jan 15th? Jan 22nd? or sometime in-between or even after the 22nd?

  2. How is TeamGM bonus handled? My understanding is that the severance is likely going to be 0.5 months of salary and benefits for each full year of service. Is that correct?

  3. Any other good tidbits of information?

I'm not looking for this to be a political thread...there are plenty of those. I just wanted to get some details as I am timing a new job so as to not lose out on severance. Thanks in advance for your help.

The layoffs are being done to save money. Anyone impacted by the layoffs will not receive any annual bonus money (if there is even any for 2018). Those payments will be made in mid-February to early-March, and I assure you those impacted by the layoffs will be long gone by then.

  1. All of the above. The layoffs started as early as two months ago as of the time of this posting, contractors out the door first, salaried will be next, quite possibly multiple rounds. None of it was done professionally.

  2. Severance as I understand it, will be on par with the buyout packages.

  3. Word across the company is that people are getting fed up with this nonsense, heavily considering ditching the market for alternative opportunities. Think John Galt, all the intellectuals simply walk away and disappear. These companies have a real problem on their hands with the "ghosting" that's on the rise, and all the youth that lack and loyalty or experience. This may come back to bite them in the rear, and rightfully so.

As for Mary, she has done a fine job shattering the glass ceiling. Unfortunately when she did this, all the shards rained down upon the heads of everyone else around her. As she is a vastly wealthy individual, and as such, would you ever care if you ran the company into the ground, for better or worse, or destroyed the livelihoods that helped build it up? She has already stated that she is beholden to the stockholders, and they are the puppet masters. Her mission is predetermined, she has handlers. Among these agendas, are the push for female empowerment, as was quite obvious on the inside. Every other news article was about a female promotion, as they were so often, you wondered if they were promoted solely based upon gender, or the actual qualification.

There is one thing that she will be remembered for. She is NOT a Rick Wagner. His game of chess was reacting to a game of desperation given his choices. Her game of chess, is initiate based upon a time of greed when the company was reporting record yearly gains. She will be remembered in a much worse light. That will be her legacy. There is a single reason that she is CEO, at a time GM needed help from the outrage of massive recalls....

The company needed a soft spoken, apologetic face to feed to the public. Its very transparent, as there were individuals well more qualified ahead of her. Oops.

You get nothing. Mary and her team will get all bonus, raises, and incentives for doing a great job. You will be put on the street. Go buy a $50,000 GM Car or a $60,000 Truck. You might get 12,000 in GM incentives. This is so pathetic what she has done. Fine Job. Be a woman and make your own decisions not the boards decisions.
