Thread regarding IBM layoffs

RedHat falls short of its sales expectations before the acquisition is complete

RedHat sales fell short of expectations wich can be seen in its latest earnings report. Even though there is no room to panic, as the sales are far from generally bad numbers, I see that some analysts and even IBM’ers are worried about this decline, as IBM hopes that the RedHat acquisition will provide a boost to the hybrid cloud business.

Rumors of IBM buying Redhat were probably the cause.

As a customer, I would buy Redhat to distance myself from a legacy company like IBM. Now I can't.

Q4 will be worse.

Everyone keeps saying SUSE or UBUNTU will take over. Perhaps, but it seems to me that Redhat has become the standard in the USA/NA market. (Lots of solutions are coded). They simply have the developers who are willing to code all of the middleware / ISV front end applications. I believe SUSE in Europe has approx the same position as Redhat in the USA. They most likely will compete head to head moving forward, BUT Redhat seems to have more momentum, coders, tool. Ubuntu has piles of coders, but they seem to have very little experience coding “finished” applications. You want something simple, these are your guys. If you want something that ties into your legacy code and acts as a front end, SUSE or REDHAT seem to be well ahead of the curve. I believe this is just the “experience” of the coders and their willingness to move from one product to another. NET NET as SUSE and Redhat add ease of use tools, they will accelerate forward.

I would call it the ‘IBM effect’... companies are probably already considering whether they should continue using Red Hat. I think Ubuntu will see a sharp uptick in business.

3Q slowdowns are not unusual. If they miss their numbers in 4Q, we are in trouble.
