Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Always Internal candidates are picked for advertised Cisco jobs.... why?

Can some Cisco people explain to us, externals applicants; why they open the door for externals to apply and they let them go through the interview process for many interviews, and then they pick an internal candidate?!

I have applied more than 5 times and after I finish all the interviews, I always get the same answer, we picked an Internal candidate. why cannot Cisco pick the internal candidate without wasting all those poor external candidates time then?!

The tool that funnels applications to the internal recruiter does not differentiate between internal and external candidates - it's the same tool, but if you're internal you can see who the hiring manager is.. You will need to know the hiring manager. But the hiring mangers usually already know who they want to hire or have been told who they're hiring - it can be an exec's nephew or their buddy from another group. It's all really who you know.

I maybe wrong , but was told in order to for current internal candidate who is holding H1B visa to apply Green Card. Hiring manger require to invite less qualify non-H1B visa holder come on-site interview, document why the externals got rejected due to less qualify than the internal candidate.

Both legal department and HR required those document to support their cases to process H1B visa holder.

Why would you apply to Cisco with all the layoffs? The constant re-orgs and layoffs are extremely stressful.

Sometimes they are posted externally so that a current contractor can apply and be made a full time employee (converted). Seen as contractors can’t use the internal job site, it has to be posted externally for them to apply.

It's part of internal HR policy. Job Posting must be listed internally and externally a minimum of 7 days. 90% of the time the candidate is already selected before the job is even posted. I accepted a new role a couple months back. They couldn't issue my offer until the "official" 7 day posting had elapsed.

Yes if a manager has picked someone to hire they still must post the opening and collect resumes, maybe conduct a few interviews.

Internal candidates are significantly cheaper. Most Cisco employees are paid 20-30% below market rate. Furthermore, the hiring manager most likely created the job for a friend or relative.

You must be a real believer to try 5 times to in

Internal candidates may know the hiring manager or be more familiar with process/code

But also they can be made to move with no hike or promotion so less budget cost
