Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Thank them? Seriously? They made all of us make extraordinaroky tough decisions. I had no intention of leaving the company but after the people I saw get laid off last July, I felt I had no choice. They won't be getting a thanks from me.

Enjoyed my 12 years here, ready to move on. This is about the best way us little cogs in the wheel could go out.

Aside from the bureaucracy, favoritism and constant layoffs, Verizon has been an excellent company to work for. I am not saying this to be sarcastic either. I am grateful for everything I have learned and earned.

I'll echo the prior posts. Thank you Verizon - You developed my skills and blunted my unnecessarily sharp edges. I hope all of you enjoy the same growth and opportunities.

This could of been a lot different. Be glad for what was given and move on. You are only guaranteed death and taxes in this life. Accept what has been given and do something different.

I didn't pay attention earlier..thought I would be paying my usual part for health care coverage. Got my 12/28 exit package and saw that VRZ would be paying for the full COBRA cost until my package ends... Very nice!

Couldn't have said it better myself. I am happy with what VZ did.

FedEx is giving a package where-bye it's 4 weeks per year of service up to 2 years. Not too shabby.

agree with the previous sentiments. nice way to leave. Verizon didn't have to do this, but did. be grateful. nice Christmas bonus, and a new lease on a career (for some)

It was a generous package. I do have a hard time wondering if I should be thankful.

As other have said it was probably a way to try and get older people to leave the company. The package also was quite disruptive to people wondering what this was all about. Were they going to in the future go with a much reduced RIF package and thus people had to worry about that.

I am sure there were some that felt pressured to take it since they thought if they didn't what they might get in the future would be less or nothing.

On the other hand for some the severance may have given them a way to reinvent themselves.
