Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Make Cisco great again

We need to drain the swamp a.k.a. ELT and all those crooks who hire and promote only folks from their village. We need to build a wall around Cisco to stop H1Bs and their cronies from flooding Cisco. Extreme vetting, travel ban is needed to cut the Opex. Make Cisco Great Again ;-)

H1B visas aren't really what the problem is - they are outsourcing to countries like Mexico, Brazil, Krakow, Bangalore, and outside Bejing using 3rd party vendors - they aren't hiring anyone. All the job "openings" the ELT keeps talking about is just to keep WS, media and stockholders from asking questions - most of those listed aren't funded. It's a sham.

For those who are complaining H1B visa causing your out of job, wouldn't encourage your children to do engineering .

Let me ask you first , if the H1B recipient was a caucasian from an Anglo country, e.g Ireland, UK and Australia, will you make a noise?

The current US Uni programs are guiding towards web applications. Yeah, those javascript, python stuffs.

How many of you folks have bothered to look beyond the tcp/ipv stack?

Do you think IOS-XE, XR and NXOS is going to be around for the next 50 years?

3/4 of the Cisco products are just regurgitating from the internet/opensource. Just packaged together for an "enterprise product"

By the way,

How many folks can code in C in Cisco?

How many of you thought to move beyond the current networking system?

For those who complained about they wouldn't encourage their children not study comp science specifically

How many US IT/Comp Science grads knows the number of syscalls in a x86_64 linux kernel ?

What is the difference between a freebsd and linux ip stack

The Chinese/European are far more advanced in networking than the US. Quantum networking and 5G?

So folks, enjoy bashing H1B visa employee and guess what?

Who agrees to employs H1B visa workers at the end. The Chinese/Indian ?

Apple quality has plummeted for years now. Every release seems to require 200 new features I don’t need , poorly written by H1B programmers slowing down my phone. As an admitted Apple fan this hurts to admit. Seriously considering Samsung for my next phone. unfortunately I’m the sure quality s---s at any competitor so no joy anymore

nothing will make cisco great again. not even if you fired everyone and only took in

the IOS-XE, XR and NXOS codebase is a fragmented mess of 100s of buggy components spread across dozens of teams and VP/director empires in 5 major locations (sjc, ott, rtp, england, bgl). nothing can make it reliable when a feature needs some 15 comps to work smoothly together.

nobody wants to lose their power, or clean up org boundaries or merge and collapse stuff into leaner formats. the PD / PI separation is a walking train wreck. PD teams find things broken when PI does some change for xyz feature and PI has no resources to test properly on all types of hw.

a startup would throw out most of the old code and start afresh. unfortunately there is a long 15 year tail of deployed code to support and put band aids on.

yes cisco's overall engineering team quality has declined from the heydays but thats only part of the story. if you rolled back and time and brought in the same teams on the current situation, they'd still end up in the same mess.

Yes, this industry isn’t much beyond stitching shoes...

“I am a US engineer and I am not blind. Why would I recommend my son or daughter go to an expensive college for an engineering degree? Becoming a US engineer is a high risk gamble today. Jobs that could go new US graduates are directed to an H1B foreign engineer. Even young US engineers are losing their jobs to H1B people.

Its not about you its about corporations cutting costs. Quality died decades ago so they get away with it if customers cannot buy a quality product from any vendor.”

Amen. I would ever, ever recommend one of my family next generation go into IT

Having been bounced out of cisco a few years ago, all I have left is cisco stock. Cisco can do whatever it wants to maintain the stock price including get rid all of the lifers that joined straight out of college.

There is no shortage of US engineers they just don't want you if your over 40 which manufactured an industry shortage. There is a shortage of young US graduate engineers for a very good reason.

From white male who was laid off from Cisco while a large number of H1B workers kept their job.

The H1B program in net creates jobs for Americans. If there were no H1B, there would not be an American high tech sector. Not enough Americans want to go into engineering.

Yes you can argue that if there were not so many H1B workers suppressing wages that more Americans would go into engineering. I don't think that is true. Engineering, like medicine, requires a passion for the trade. No amount of money will motivate someone to be an engineer if they don't like the work.

The ELT does what Wall Street wants. Cisco IS the company Wall Street wants. even if it means the workforce is something just short of slave labor. As long as the dividend keeps coming, nobody cares.

Welcome to 'Murika.

Looks like someone’s really in the holiday spirit. Bet it’ll be good to celebrate some good family time this year. Or maybe the shutdown is that perfect time of year to wallow through another week of wretched existence.

Apple has a lot of Indian H1B workers. It's a great company. Need to rethink your racist viewpoint.
