Some more Automation- WM is introducing Flippy, the burger flipping kitchen assistant

I wish that a day would go by that don’t read in the news that WM is introducing some new form of automation aimed to replace its workforce. After Casihierless stores, automated distribution centers, robot janitors … now we have Flippy, the new robotic kitchen assistant that has the ability to flip burgers and fry food, which WM wants to introduce in its delis. At first, I had a good laugh at this info, but then it got me thinking how the company is changing at a rapid pace. Although at this point this is more of a marketing move by the company, rather than something that will substitute the human workers, it won't be long before automation claims its first “victims”, even on the level of store delis. Think that we all need to be aware of this and try to seek other opportunities while we can.

The whole point of trotting out Flippy and similar tech right now is to scare workers about their job security, and ensure their meekness and compliance.

No US retailer is close to replacing humans with machines at scale. No amount of worker compliance will save those jobs once the tech is ready.

I'm not believing one bit of any of this 'robot invasion' until I actually see it.

Flippy is completely unusable. It's got about one day of usability out of every five. Just a marketing gimmick at this point.
